Would you wimp out?

I'm a baby. I admit it, but I can barely get out of bed the nausea is so bad. Then I threw up last night so hard I was crying by the time it was over. Emma is getting into everything and I feel like an awful mother for keeping an eye on her from the couch. Crackers, lemon heads, sour things, peppermint, my Sea bands, nothing is working the way it did when I was pregnant with Emma. So do I call my OB and ask if there is anything else or a prescription so I can at least get up and take care of my child and self better? I'm slowly becoming convinced that I'm the worst mom ever for letting this get me down so bad. Help please!

Re: Would you wimp out?

  • I'd at least call and see what they say. Do you have any friends or family close by that could take Emma for a couple hours? Hope you start feeling better soon! A friend who has had TERRIBLE morning sickness (had to be hospitalized for it 4 times) was telling me the other day her dr. said it is worst from 7-10 weeks and usually starts getting better after that! Hope these next couple weeks can speed by for you!!!!

  • Definitely call and get yourself some anti-nausea meds.  It does not make you a wimp.  You've got a toddler to take care of this time around.  Hang in there!

  • That is not wimping out! They have prescriptions for pg-related nausea. I would definitely get it in your situation!

  • I feel your pain. Taking care of toddlers while deal with morning sickness is brutal. I would definitely call!! With both of my pregnancies I took B6 and Unisom and it helped A LOT. It is over the counter and the my dr said the safest first option for dealing with morning sickness. I know it doesn't help some people, but might be worth a shot!

I got the melt under your tongue B6/folic acid vitamins from Trader Joe's because I literally couldn't take a pill without it triggering my gag reflex. I also take the adult gummy vitamins. Then for the unisom pills I always took a half and they are so tiny that I could swallow them.

Good luck!! I hope this passes quickly for you. I was sick until 13W and one day I craved food again and life has been much better ever since.

  • I would definitely call.  I don't think it's wimping out at all.  You have a little girl to take care of.  I'm so sorry you're having a rough go of it this time around!
  • I would call. I had terrible m/s with both kids and my midwives would not give me medication :(

Anyway, they said it was b/c I was too dehydrated (and they were right). I know its so hard to keep anything down, but I started drinking a teaspoon of water or gatorade at a time (while lying down) once every 15 mins for an hour or so, then slowly had more until i could sip it all day. Dehydration always got me, but try to have even a tiny bit of liquids. I promise in the end it will be worth it! If you can keep up with some liquids you will feel like a whole new person!

  • Zofran was my best friend, I would call and see what they can do. Hang in there, and you are NOT a wimp at all. You are pregnant with a toddler!!!

  • Even at 22 weeks - I still throw up (or at least dry heave) SEVERAL times a day - but I am the extreme case.  Zofran doesn't work for me but Unisom (yes, the sleep aid - on the shelves of the grocery store) works to keep me out of the hospital and able to work and be productive.

Call your doc and ask - you're not being wimpy - dehydration will be a vicious cycle you can't get out of without some medical intervention.

This!  though if you take zofran, take some stool softeners with it as it makes you super constipated.

  • My first pregnancy, I did have to be put on something for nausea. I could barely eat, drink, etc., and I had to go to work. It was hell. It did help, but I had to take it at a certain time before I ate and that was kind of hard to remember since I wouldn't feel like eating. Hang in there. <hugs you>

  • They are calling in Zofran for me. Hopefully I'll be able to function like a normal human being. I am very grateful my husband was able to come home to help me.

  • I took Zofran for the majority of my pregancy and I don't think I'm a wimp.  Some women get more severe m/s than others.  I battled it out and tried all the tricks for the first couple months and finally realized I needed some prescription help.  My husband said he was amazed I put up with being as sick as I was in the first trimester, he said he couldn't do it.  The Zofran didn't take the sickness away completely, but it helped me function at least.

  • It's not wimping out to ask for medical help!  If you're that bad, get some drugs!

I don't do well with nausea and pukies. If I had bad morning sickness, I would check out my options asap! You are so not a wimp! Go take care of yourself so that you can give Ems everything she needs!
