Switching OBGYN = delayed 1st u/s

I've made the decision to switch OBGYN based on the recommendations from a few friends.  The (minor) problem is that because my husband works about an hour away he can only make appointments on Tues. & Thurs.  So that constricts the available appointments.  We were supposed to have our first u/s on 3/18.  Now we won't have our 1st appt until 3/24 and even then they don't do a u/s, just a doppler.  *sigh*

I'll be out of my 1st tri by the time I get my first u/s.  Oh well, I guess for centuries women had healthy pregnancies & babies without u/s.  We're just anxious and excited to see the little bugger.

Re: Switching OBGYN = delayed 1st u/s

  • With my first pregnancy, 8 years ago, I didn't get an US until 20 wks. Things have changed since then, as my same OB does them at first appointment now.

  • I've had to switch OB care due to insurance issues and had a similar situation.  I have to get in to see the midwife for a first appt before they'll even schedule an u/s.  Problem is due to them being booked, I can't get in for that first appt until 3/10 (almost 9 weeks along).  I'll be lucky to get my first scheduled u/s before I'm out of the first tri.

Extremely frustrating seeing as I've had a past m/c and have had bleeding 3 times this pregnancy.  The only u/s I've had was in the ER after bleeding...but it was too early to see a hb.

I'm trying to relax about it, but I really really want to know that things are going as they should in there.  We're holding off telling family until we see a hb, so this extra delay is extra tough in that respect.

  • My OB does u/s at 20 weeks unless there's a problem.  There's no need to see every single second.  Hearing the heartbeat with a doppler  is just fine for me:)
