February 2011 Moms

Isn't it suppose to get easier?

The first week was soooo much easier. There was no gas, no constipation, and no horrible spit up.

Now he can barely sleep without being woken up from pains resulting in co-sleeping at nights sometimes, he is slightly constipated, and chokes and coughs a lot when he spits up which scares the crap out of me which is another reason we are co-sleeping because we have to sit up straight up to help him out. Thank god we have a pedi appt Thursday.

It just seems like things have gotten harder. I used to know why he was crying because it was either hungry or dirty diaper and now there are so many other discomforting things to him that sometimes I can't figure it out and I hate that feeling.

  • Can I reassure you that it will get easier?

I have said this 1982137329721309 times, but I am SO glad I don't ever have to be a first time mom again.  I was so stressed out that I can barely remember DD when she was this age.

For me, life has gotten way easier around 6 weeks, and just know that each subsequent child it will only get easier!

  • Welcome to Parenthood - just when you think you've got it figured out, they throw you a curveball!

We're entering the peak time of crying/fussiness right now. It peaks at about 2 months, and starts to drop after 3.  There will be a lot of fussing, gassiness, etc. for a while now.  DS is 1 month today and it is harder now - at first they just sleep.  Now they're more alert, their digestive system is changing - lots going on.

It will get easier in some ways, and harder in others.  Hang in there!

  • I was just thinking the same thing earlier.  H spits up in her sleep even after sitting upright for 20-30 minutes after eating, so she's constantly waking herself up on the offchance I can get her to sleep in the first place.  She's such a gassy thing now too, so that doesn't help either.

Hang in there - hopefully the pedi will be able to help on Thursday!

  • DS is 5 weeks and it has gotten harder almost every week so far. If it doesn't get easier soon I'm going to go crazy.

  • i wish it got easier. as of today my arms are super sore from holding a screaming, fussy, gassy baby. i think we're in a growth spurt, if i put her down she screams. God help my aching arms!!

  • I'm in the exact same boat! DD is almost 3wks and it's gotten so much harder in the last three days :( Since last night she's been crying anytime she's awake unless my boob is in her mouth. Like sobbing crying. Nothing we'd been doing to soothe her is working anymore. I'm waiting on a back from the pedi as to whether we should try Mylicon. And in the meantime there's a baby permanently attached to my boob.

I think DS is going through a growth spurt too. He is constantly hungry and wants to be held all the time...I need to get my butt moving on making that Moby wrap!

Good to know that I am not the only one who feels this way or has noticed things getting harder though.

  • It does get easier! I was thinking this same thought a few days ago. I thought with my second one it would seem easier but it's been a bit rough. Then the last 3 nights we seem to have a break through where he has been sleeping a couple hours at a time at night instead of waking every hour. I now feel that I can manage things a bit better. Hang in there! as you listen to him you will learn his different cries.
