Thomas the Train

so I was going to take DD to PA to see Thomas - https://www.strasburgrailroad.com/day-out-with-thomas.php but then realized that Thomas also comes to MD and since she won't know the PA one is better, I want to take her to Baltimore - https://www.borail.org/

has anyone been? any tips? we'd drive up early on Sat, stay the day and drive back that afernoon. We are about 1.5hrs away from Baltimore

Re: Thomas the Train

  • No tips but we bought tickets for Saturday.  I think DS will have a good time and may just go with dad as I'm scheduled to have my c-section 2 weeks prior to that.  You could always do that and then have lunch at the Harbour.  It's not too far away.  The musuem is a lot of fun!

  • No tips either, but we're going to PA to see the train. We're making a toddler weekend of it and going to Dutch Wonderland too.

  • Thanks for posting!  I forgot about this and wanted to do it for DS's birthday.  :)

  • Oh, and I haven't been, but I've heard that tickets sell out fast.  DS's birthday is April 30th, so it would be a perfect birthday...

    ETA again:

Baltimore is an easy trip.  We've been up to the aquarium several times.

this was the original plan but DS screams in the car and it would not make for a fun drive!

pls post after you come back and let me know how it is!

  • We went last year with our oldest.  It was the middle of summer when we went though and scorching hot so unfortunately the outdoor activities were not so fun but overall they do a good job.  There's lots of activities for the young ones and if they like trains as much as ours does, it's like they died and went to heaven.  They attach a Thomas train to a MARC train and take you out for a 20 min ride and back -- the scenery leaves something to be desired on the ride (some boarded up buildings and grafitti), but the kids don't care and enjoy the ride just the same.

  • We went last year and will be going again this year and DD LOVED it! The B&O is a great museum especially if  your kid is obessed with trains like mine is, she was in heaven!.  There was plenty of actitivies for kids to do. The train ride was good, nothing special but again if you kid is obessed with trains they will love it.

I would bring my own food though. The food there was gross and expensive
