My doctor has been stressing that Jason & I both need this booster, I will be getting in the hospital, Jason will be getting it the week we're home. We are asking both sets of parents to get it as well. Mine live in Florida but my mom is flying in on Friday to stay with us for two weeks - I feel that she should also get the booster - just in case PLUS the whole "you catch so much from a plane" factor as well.
She seems to think I'm over worrying and again wondered aloud "how we survived when we were younger". She's staying in our house and I don't want to cause any hurt feelings but at the same time - I've seen the reports and read the stories - I'd rather she just get the booster and be done with it. Jason is telling his parents the same thing since they will be watching the baby for about two weeks before s/he goes to daycare.
We're getting a lot of rolled eyes our way & I'm getting frustrated. Did you have to deal with this issue as well? Did you get your booster? Did you tell your parents/care givers they needed one?
Re: Whooping Cough Booster
I did not worry about this, however, Gabriel was born in the summer so that may have been why. I will say, when I went for my physical in January for my health insurance my PCP insisted I get it, even though at that point Gabe had gotten all 3 rounds of the vaccine. When DH goes for his physical he will be getting it as well. Honestly, if they are going to be caring for the baby for a longer period of time like you are saying and you are nervous about it I would ask that they get it. When it comes to Whooping cough you can never be too careful. I'm pretty laid back, but Whooping cough was one of the things that scared the *** out of me. Maybe it was those damn commercials they kept playing when I was on Maternity leave....

It has never once been mentioned to me and I have been to my OB and PCP several times since I had Peyton. So, I have never had it, DH has never had it, and my mom, who watches her 2-3 days a week while I'm at work, has never had it either.
P has only had the first two rounds of the vaccine and won't get her third one until the end of April. Her pedi has never mentioned that DH and I should get it either...
I was given the booster at the hospital before I left, the nurse at the time told me that anyone who has day to day contact with dd should get the booster. That being said H and my parents/his parents have not gotten the booster and I haven't pushed the issue and my mom watches her. My family has been very good and respectful of the if you are sick, don't come by Morgan rule and thankfully (knocking on wood as I type) she has not been sick once!
You do whatever makes you feel most comfortable! I think that if I would have pushed the issue everyone would have gotten the shot just to make me feel comfortable. I hear those babies cough on the commercials and my heart breaks for them!
Nobody every mentioned it to me in the hospital...that I can remember (it was a loooong few days). Dh didnt get it though. I stay at home so he doesnt go anywhere to be watched.
I say if you want them to get it they should. If you were to send the baby to daycare they daycare providers would be up to date on their shots/boosters

If it helps Oakland County is lower on the list of occurances of Whooping Cough. Washtenaw and Genesee are still in the epidemic category. I can't say what I'd do in your shoes.
I will be in the minority and say that I think you are being a bit extreme. If they are sick, they don't visit with the baby. I don't think that is an unreasonable request. However, I think vaccination is a pretty personal choice and would side-eye anyone who told me I had to do it in order to spend time with their child. To be perfectly honest, I would probably just lie about it because I would think they were overstepping their bounds.
ETA: I did get the booster because I am going back to work with kids (ie germ factories), but DH and the rest of our family did not.

My son had RSV when he was two weeks old and wound up in the hospital. I say don't take any chances.
It's just a vaccine. Get it and have anyone who is coming in extended close contact get it.
Better safe than sorry.
