How bad are these initials?

NGR.

Should I keep trying to convince my husband to use my fav name ever in the middle spot, and use this G name?  Or go with something else?  (Other options would give us the initials NCR or NBR.)

This would be for a girl.

Thank you (in advance) for your honesty.

Re: How bad are these initials?

  • Not bad to me, but I am not offended by anything. I have a friend that used TIT as the initials for her baby...

  • It's fine.  It honestly took me a good 30 seconds or so to even figure out what the problem might be.

  • I had to read through the comments to realize you were asking because there might be something wrong with them. Didn't even occur to me at all. Full initials are so rarely used, it's nbd to me.

  • It also took me a while to figure out what might be 'bad' about them....I think you are totally fine!
  • I didn't get it at all for a couple of minutes. I'm still not sure I see the same thing everyone else does..

However, when you monogram, just put the last name in the middle so it would be

nRg. (all caps but with the last name initial bigger than the other two).

  • I understood right away why you would question those initials but I really don't see them as being a big deal!

  • It's fine. I wouldn't not choose a name because of initials. Although, if we were having a girl her initials would have ended up being BMW and I was freaking out over it a little!

Same here. I don't think people should stress about initials, honestly. Who's ever going to know or care about your initials? Even when I am asked to initial something I just use my first and last initial. No big deal. My daughters initials will be CBS. I'm sure she'll be fine. :)

  • I had to google it to figure out the problem so I don't think it would have occured to me if I had just seen the initials.
  • I realized right away why it might be a problem and I guess I'm the minority but I can see this somehow coming up in High School...there are people who will notice these things...that being said I doubt it would be a MAJOR issue...just something that a dumb teen would notice and comment on...

this is what I was thinking as well.  While I wouldn't suspect it to be an issue you never know how teenagers will react to something.

That being said - I am a believer in considering the initials.  If they spell something unsavory I'd steer clear.  Example - one of our girl names starts with G and I love August as a MN (grandfathers name) but our last name starts with S so it would be GAS - I'm not doing that to my kid!

  • I think the only problem with initials is if they actually spell out an offensive word (like PP's example of TIT- I probably wouldn't go with that).

One of the names on our list has the initials LAB, but I can't think of a reason that would embarrass our LO, so we're keeping the name on. My sister's initials are RAD and she loves it.

Ditto!  I wouldn't go around posting her initials everywhere, but I think it's fine.  Besides, if you monogram something, you can do the traditional nRg.

  • Thanks everyone!  I am the one who is holding back, I see it right away when I see those letters together.  One of my nicknames is actually JLS, my initials.  Said really fast together, like Jay-el-ess.  Obviously, I won't call her by her initials b/c it is a random nickname.  I will badger DH some more to use the G name in the middle there.  :-)  Of course, we could also have a boy, and all this would be for naught.

    Thanks again!

  • I got it right away, but I don't think it is a problem. I agree with PP that often when things are monogrammed it would be nRg.
  • I don't think they're too bad.  I had a friend who's initials were SKIN
