I have DirecTV now and I like it--except the cost. The cost keeps going up, up, up even when I downgrade service. I am getting to the point where we just cannot pay that much, but if I downgrade my service any more we won't have some channels that are crucial to our peace and harmony in our home. When I signed up with them, they gave me that introductory rate for 2 years, plus some other discounts. Now those are gone, plus they just had a rate increase in February, but even before that my bill seemed to go up every month. Going back to Time Warner is not an option, but that is a story for another day.
So, those of you that have Dish Network (or another company that isn't DirecTV or TW), tell me about it. Is the REAL rate (not that introductory one they give you to suck you in) reasonable? What about other "hidden" fees? Does your bill stay pretty steady or does it keep creeping up? How often does it go out (if at all)? TIA ladies!
Re: Talk to me about Dish Network
We have dish and have the 2 year promotional rate. I think it's around $90 (we have the 250 channel package with HD for life) but with the promo we pay $65. We have one of the extra channel packages - the sports package. We had HBO and Showtime but i cancelled those recently since most of the shows we watch on those channels are on hiatus so it wasn't worth the $25 a month.
We've only had it since June, and I was kind of irritated that they moved one of the sports channels that had been standard to the extra package (which is why we ended up getting it).
We've only had a couple of noticeable outages - generally only during bad thunderstorms (it went out on Sunday night briefly when it was pouring rain). I did have to clear snow off the dish after one of the big storms.
One thing that is a PITA about it is that it has to be connected to either a phone line or the internet. We don't have home phone service but we do have DSL. We moved our router out of the entertainment center when we switched from broadband to DSL (there was no phone jack behind the entertainment center). So we had to buy an additional piece of equipment to send the internet signal through the electrical wiring (sling link). It would be nice if it could connect wirelessly...
We really like Dish Network. We have had no trouble with outages (that is all about the placement of your own dish, not the actual company). We found that the rates after intro went up less than Direct TV. Also, they have free HD for life so that is a nice little bonus.
