Target registry adds things on its own?

So, I logged into my Target registry today, because I use my registry as a shopping list for myself and not so much a "registry". There is an automatic bouncer on there that 1. I did not add & 2. Apparently two of have been purchased.

Can items just add themselves? (Also, it is a really ugly bouncer and so not something I even want). Jeez, if I really do get this, I hope I can take it back!

Re: Target registry adds things on its own?

  • That happened to me last week and I got the shoes at my shower on Sunday... the weird thing about it was that it said I wanted 1 and 2 were purchased but I only got 1...SORRY, sounds like you're getting the ugly bouncer (but probably just one), just like my ugly shoes! I plan on going and exchanging them! Good Luck!

  • Oh ya, and there was lots of stuff bought off my registry that never came off...

  • I've been doing the same thing with using it as a shopping list so maybe it's a good thing we haven't told anyone it exists yet! I'll have to keep an eye on it.

JodiB, if the baby registry works the same as the wedding one for Target it's easy for that to happen. If they buy the item in the store but don't have the cashier scan the printed registry paper it won't take it off the registry. It sounds like common sense but we had a lot of people automatically assume it would come off without scanning the code.

  • I can understand if it isn't scanned so it doesn't "come off" the registry (or show up as purchased so other people don't purchase).

My question is... how did it get there in the first place??

  • Yeah that's just bizarre.
  • This happened to us with both of our BRU and Target registries.  When we got home from BRU, I checked the registry because the scanner thing was defective.  We are having a boy and clearly scanned boy items, but when we got home we noticed several girl items on the list.  I checked Target because of the hiccups with BRU and again, items that I never scanned were on there!  I'm not quite convinced that registries are so ideal.  Couple of weeks ago, our bouncy seat was showing up as purchased on BRU, but last night it is now marked as unpurchased.  I have no idea what's going on!

  • We had so many issues with our Target wedding registry that I refused to have my baby registry there.

In our case, stuff would mysteriously disappear AFTER it had been purchased...making it difficult to return multiple items.

  • You must have registered for the same bouncer I did. I think Target discontinued it and automatically replaced it with the other one. It also showed up that two were purchased. I recieved one at my shower. The exact same thing happened to a friend of mine who registered for the same bouncer. It's a Bright Starts bouncer, I believe.

This happened to us with our BB&B wedding registry, so it might be the same thing. When people print out your registry and then take it to the check out and the cashier scans it, then everything they buy in that transaction (whether its on your registry or not) gets either checked off your registry, or added and then checked off.

This is how it happened. My friend bought something off my registry and something for herself and what she bought herself showed up on my registry. She was with me when I saw the item added so we figured out what happened.

I've also seen this happen.  I asked a friend why she had put 2 cases of Diet Coke on her registry and whether it was a joke, but apparently someone bought the Diet Coke at the same time as a gift so it updated their registry with the Coke.

This exactly! It happened to me too with my wedding registry, and we ended up tampons and maxi pads on our BB&B wedding registry!!

  • I think if someone buys something, and gives the cashier your registry number, it shows up. I would guess someone bought you a bouncer, and thats why its showing up.

  • Yep this happened to me too!  I had my shower on Saturday and when I checked my registry Sunday morning it had added serveral items I received at my shower including a card, tissue paper, and a gift bag.  The guy at Target told me they do that to make returns easier.  He said when someone checks out they can say they want to "add" it to your registry. And everything they added said I wanted 1 and got 2 but thankfully just got 1 from this person!!  But the good thing was all you have to do is print out a gift purchase log and since they added it to your registry you can just return it!  But it still made me mad. Before I could delete the items off my registry someone else went and bought me 2 more blue crib sheets that had been added!!  So I didn't register for any and got 3!!

Also - if you are using the registry just for yourself you can make it private and no one can see it.
