Ours just died. Jack's room is next to ours but we are sound sleepers and need the monitor. It has a short in it and last night poor kid had a nightmare, he was screaming for a few minutes before either of us woke up. DH is amazing with that monitor, he can be in a deep slumber and the second Jack makes a peep he is up to get him.
I want one that will last a bit longer than the other one we had, which was Fisher Price's basic model, the white one with two receivers.

Oh my gosh, do I ever have an opinion on this one?! We had the $299 Summer Infant Complete Coverage Video Monitor, and it SUCKS. If you have a very small home, it will work well for you, but if your room is not super close to your LO's room, the static is so hard to live with. Even on the lowest volume it makes so much noise. My DH and I made ourselves live with it until this week...
After reading about a zillion reviews, I bought the Levana Digital Video Monitor. Got it for $130 on diapers.com. It is great so far. The picture isn't perfect, but the sound quality is, and what you really need from the picture is just to be able to make sure everything is OK if they are fussing or what not. The only thing I don't love about it is that the picture does enter sleep mode after a few hours and then if the baby makes noise, it turns back on. Some people love this function, but I did like being able to look at my first son any time I rolled over and woke up.
Some people really like the Lorax, but that too didn't have enough range in our home.
Yup... we have two and it even reaches outside when we are out past DS's bedtime playing bags with the neighbors.
