starting solids?

we just gave E some rice cereal last night for the first time. We just gave him a couple spoonfuls and honestly, he didn't seem to love it but I am  not really worried about that.

My question is how often do we try the cereal? Every day?

Thanks!

Re: starting solids?

  • Yep, everyday is what our Pedi suggested, but Evan never took rice cereal. He hated it an dwould bat it away. We tried veggies next. Evan is one of those kids who never liked purees, but I know of a lot of kids who didn't like rice cereal. Just keep trying and see how it goes. It is new to him, so he may just need to warm up to the idea.

  • With DD1 we skipped the rice cereal and went right to veggies.  We're gonna do the same with DD2 in the next few days.

  • My DD never liked rice cereal we went onto oatmeal.  We started with it at dinner time, then moved to breakfast probably a week after starting it at dinner.  Solids is just to confusing to me, like how much, when to add another solid to a meal...  I would rather just nurse.
  • I know a lot of people do their own thing, but our pedi gave us a schedule that we followed.  I think we did rice ceral for 3 nights and then oatmeal for 3.  Then we followed a plan for fruits and veggies.  I don't remember the exact plan but I know we just did one meal a day for several weeks and then we added a second and a few weeks later added the 3rd.  We did each new food for 3 days to make sure there was no reaction.
  • We skipped cereal as well and went straight to veggies at 6 months. When we first started, I would do 1 to 2 times a day. By 9ish months we were up to 3 times a day and by 11 months she is all on table food only (with some baby food at MDO since I have some left over).

We did try to give food every day but it was tough the first few weeks just with planning and feedings. We got it pretty regular by 7ish months though.
