I'm so out of it, I can't remember if I posted that they were born. I was supposed to have a csection today for a breech baby A, but my water broke at 1am on the 23rd at 37w3d. 9 hours and a whole lot of active labor later (long story. Busy OR night. Guess that's a short story, really), I swore I was in transition when they did my spinal, but they were born via c-section at 10am. Baby A, Marshall Alexander was born at 6lbs 11 oz with an 8/10 and 9/10 on his APGARS. Baby B, Grant William was born at 4lbs 13 oz with a 9/10 and 9/10 on his APGARS. The first thing Marshall did (besides steal his brother's Wheaties) was pee on his brother.
Marshall has been a BFing CHAMP and wins the award amongst my boys for being most like a barracuda. Grant took a while , a supplementary nursing system and a whole lot of patience, but in the last 24 hours seems to be getting the hang of it. It's actually kind of handy being able to use his barracuda brother to trigger a letdown that he can take advantage of. I mostly still nurse them individually because Grant needs a lot of encouragement, nipple sandwiches and wet washcloths to keep going, but I can see the tandem thing working out already and it has worked a few times. MAN I'm glad I'm not trying to do this with 2 my first time out of the gate, though. My hats off to you MoMs who have twins first
Anyway, we're pretty tired and incoherent, but some day I'll type up a full birth story. The c-section was better than I expected but still could have been improved with some simple safe changes to hospital procedures. I'm going to write a letter addressing some of that to the hospital.
Here's the 1st day. Guess which one is the tiny peanut?
Grant is so alert and inquisitive. He's like this old soul in a newborn body:
Marshall seems huge to us but it's really only in comparison to Grant. He's my BFing champ:
Grant's trying to gain back some of those in utero calories lost:
Re: Did I mention my babies were born?
