Nicole's post got me thinking...we are soon to start real solids (not just cereal) and I planned on cooking everything myself and using pumped milk which is already frozen. I wanted to cook a large batch & then freeze to use throughout the week. But I thought BM could only be frozen once (not frozen, thawed for cooking & then frozen again with the food). Can you only cook with fresh milk if you plan on freezing?
TIA!!
Re: s/o solids - cooking with BM
yes, I never did this but I think what people do is cook the food part and then add BM to thin it out if needed once they have un-thawed what they are going to use. I always just BF'd J before meals (and asked DCP to offer bottle or cup before a meal) to make sure that he was still getting the bulk of his nutrients from the BM.
Are you looking at actual recipes that "call" for BM as an ingredient?
Not an actual ingredient but saying thin with Formula, Breast Milk or Plain Water. Maybe I can do what you do...offer bottle first while at daycare and then give her pureed food made with water. I was just hoping I could use my frozen stash to cook with.
I still think you would be fine following the recipe/directions until that last step (i.e. steam and puree the veggie and freeze in single server portions) and then when you are ready to use it thaw it out and add BM. You could do that last step the morning of (or night before) she is going to use it following the previously frozen BM keeps for 24 hours.
this makes sense. I will try this b/c I've got to use my frozen BM stash relatively soon or it is going to go bad.
Thanks for the input, ladies!
