I ordered my stuff from Amazon- I got a great deal and free shipping.
Really? You weren't worried about not seeing it first? How did you have it delivered? Is someone always home? We both work all day and are gone for 12+ hours a day so I'd hate for something like that to be sitting out there. Plus I worry about it being heavy and how to get it in the house and up the stairs. /20 questions. lol, TIA!
We looked for what we wanted in the stores and then were able to find it online at Walmart.com. They offer free site to store shipping so you just pick it up in the store when it comes in. Fairly quick delivery too, within a few weeks opposed to the 3 months most stores have.

I wasn't worried about seeing it, but I did read a lot of reviews. I'm extremely happy with what we bought. As for delivery, I have Amazon prime, and we got free 2 day shipping so we just planned for my husband to be home when we knew it would be delivered. He got it up the stairs no problem, but I certainly could not have done so.
Thanks for all the tips! I also have amazon prime, so that is a good idea.
I had fantastic experience with Giggle - the staff there are great, and they can deliver it to the store instead of your house if you are worried you can't be home when it arrives.

Most of what you can take a look at in-person at say Babies R Us, you could likely find on Amazon for less money and free shipping. The shipping doesn't take that long either.

There's a crib and bed outlet in Lombard. They have a nice selection.
There's also Rooms for Kids on Halsted and Cermak. They have a very small selection of cribs but all of the furniture is very well built. https://www.rooms4kidsoutlet.com/
We haven't bought our furniture yet but will probably go with one of these two places.
Not sure what area you're in, but Cribs to College in Naperville is awesome! Their sales people don't work on commission, so there is no pressure to buy. Plus their prices are great and they always have a great monthly deal going. My crib was $20 less and the dresser $30 less than at Buy Buy Baby. The February deal was $100 off a crib with the purchase of a mattress and one other piece of furniture, so I feel like we got a great price for everything.
I would highly recommend checking it out if they're at all convenient to you. They're on 59 by the mall.

Thanks! Good to know. I am about 25 min away from Naperville.
We got the dresser and bookshelf from RH Baby & Child (my friend is an interior designer and has a discount there), the glider/recliner from Lazar's (I that chair so much, it was frequently my bed during the first few months). We looked all over at cribs and ultimately decided to not spend a lot of money on a convertible because DS might end up using his crib rails as teething toys once he can pull up - so we got the Graco Sarah from BRU online as they had the best deal when we were looking.
Definitely spend time looking around to see what is out there. You can always decide to buy what you find in stores online instead if you want!
We got our crib at Pottery Barn Kids and a dresser (used as a changing table too) and matching armoire from IKEA. The PBK crib is in white but in actuality its kind of an off white and the IKEA furniture matched i perfectly as their white furniture is an off white too. People are shocked when they find out the IKEA furniture isn't PBK too. The crib took about 4 weeks to be delivered.
Eh, we got ours at Cribs to College and I was underwhelmed to say the least. The store is nice and our salesman was helpful (he was one of the owners) but I didn't think the prices were that competitive. We ordered it when I was 20 weeks pregnant and were told the furniture would be in in 8-10 weeks. Nope, it took 17 weeks to come in. There was no communication from them, I was calling constantly and being told different stories and different timelines. It was so stressful being full-term and finally getting the furniture and having to set up the nursery at 38 weeks pregnant. I think they just didn't care about customer service once they had my money.
Added to that, someone else asked a question on here a while ago about furniture stores and there were posters who were chiming in about how great this store was, who all had like 1 or 2 posts. So it looked to me like someone from the store was lurking on these boards to talk up their store. That was really icky to me.
I knew I wanted Munire furniture after seeing it at Furniture Kidz in Deer Park (Kildeer). On their site was a retailer locator and 2 other stores besides that one sold it. We ordered from Cradles and All because the owner was very nice and helpful, offered a discount for ordering more than 3 pieces and had a low delivery fee. We ordered our fully upholstered Dutailier glider and ottoman from Furniture Kidz, but only because we could pick it up. They were nice, but we were on the 3rd floor of a walk up and their delivery fee was ridiculous.
The other store was Lil Deb 'n' Heir and the saleswoman was beyond rude on the phone and scoffed at the idea of a discount. That was in 2008. In 2010 my best friend ordered her nursery furniture from there and said it was fine.
You could also look at Lazars on Lincoln. They carry Pali.
Have fun shopping!

We bought our furniture from Buy Buy Baby. Still waiting for it, but we were told it'd take about 8 weeks (it's only been 2 so far.)
We also looked at Lazar's, as we were told that they have nice stuff at good prices - well they had the same exact crib we bought from BBB, but each piece was marked up 10%-20% from the BBB prices.
Also, if you go to BBB, you can use 20% off coupons for each item. If you sign up for the BBB e-mail, they'll e-mail you a coupon good for 20% off. Sign up with multiple e-mail addresses, and you'll get multiple coupons.
BTW, if you have gmail, you can add periods or remove them throughout your e-mail address, and the e-mails still go to your same e-mail address but the BBB website thinks they're all different addresses. For example,
e.mail @ gmail, em.ail @ gmail, ema.il @ gmail, e.m.a.i.l @ gmail, etc., are all the same e-mail account at gmail, but BBB sees those as 5 separate accounts. Hope that makes sense!!

In October of last year, when I was about 4 months pregnant, I found a great deal at Babies R Us and jumped on it! The crib was 1/2 off and I got free delivery for all 3 of my furniture items (crib & 2 dressers). I found my coupon on www.retailmenot.com. I know that might be too early for some people to start buying furniture pieces but I couldn't pass that deal up. A friend of mine found her furniture at Target and another friend found hers at JC Penney. Bottom line is, look for coupons before you go shopping; you never know what you're going to come upon!
We went to Bed & Crib Outlet in Lombard on Sunday and found a few sets we liked a lot! We will definitely keep looking but wanted to throw this out there.
We got ours at IKEA. It was one of the few places that had something small enough to fit in our nursery. It is the Leskvik series. We got the crib and dresser/changing table.
We are ending up getting a westwood collection from buy buy baby. The gentleman working there that helped us was such a big help and told us we can sign up for coupons and use one for each piece of furniture.
