Vent about Pedi, what would you do?

We had to take DS to the hospital on Wednesday night, he was gasping/choking, and his right eye was puffy.  While we were at the hospital they checked his weight and the doctor on call told us he was under weight (because he hadn't reached his birth weight at that time, as of yesterday he has passed it) and also told us that DS likely had a reaction to latex nipples which I had switched him to 2 days before that and not to give him the latex nipples anymore.  They also think he has a feeding problem because he is not consistent in his feedings.

He then told us that the Pediatrician on call would like to see us in her office on Wed, March 2nd, well I've called because they gave me a number, address and a date but no time, and told us if they don't call us by Friday to call them.  Well i've been calling the machine says they are closed for the month of Feb because they are moving and will re-open March and it says not to leave a message!

Now his appointment is suppose to be tomorrow and still nothing has changed.  Would you just go to the office since my referral slip says his apt is March 2nd? or what would you do?

  • well I've never heard of a pedi's office being closed for a month. What are all the kids in that group supposed to not get sick for a month. Maybe try calling the ED for a different number.

The machine says if its an emergancy go to the hospital and i've tried contacting the hospital they said I just have to wait to get ahold of them and to keep trying!

  • Weird that they would give you a date with no time for a clinic that states it is closed for a month. And weird that the clinic is closed for a month without any other option besides ER if it is an emergency. Obviously there is miscommunication between the hospital and the clinic if the scheduler doesn't even know they are closed.

If you are just following up with the on-call pedi then it shouldn't matter what pediatrician you see. I would see if you could go to a different pedi and having the records from the hospital forwarded to them. There have to be pediatricians who are actively seeing patients that you can get in to. If you are having issues still maybe contacting the doctor who took care of your LO at the hospital. Those are the only two things I can think of.
