Any veggies start eating meat?

Just wondering...I've been thinking about eating chicken..since it's been about 10 years, I thought maybe chicken would be a good place to start...I'm not really wanting chicken though...I'm strangely enough wanting a hot dog, an Arby's roast beef sandwich and BBQ ribs...go figure!  I just don't want to eat any of those and get sick!

Re: Any veggies start eating meat?

  • I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't eat a lot of meat at all- never have. I'm just not a meat person. Strangely enough though, my fav meat is hot dogs! I usually eat the all-beef Hebrew National ones though. I can totally understand not craving chicken- I never crave chicken ever. I don't think a hot dog would make you sick- but I'd stick to a high quality one & make sure it's cooked really well. It also seems like less meat to 'start' with. I'd think you'd be more likely to eat more with the chicken, and it might be better to ease into it.

  • I haven't touched or craved beef/pork in 16 years or so. Chicken however, I've had on and off. I don't go out of my way and order it when I go or cook it all that often for myself, but if it's there I'll eat it.

How about veggie hot dogs? I think those are pretty good.

  • I've been a veggie for 15 years, and yes, I've kind of been craving typical "meat" dishes the last few weeks!  I know that incorporating meat into my diet would likely make me really sick, so I've been having a lot of the veggie versions of meat dishes instead...like veggie dogs, burgers, veggie shepherd's pie, veggie tacos, veggie lasagna. etc.  The Yves meatless ground beef is my favorite way to prepare all of those dishes Big Smile

I am so in love with my precious little miracle!
  • I'm not a strict veg head anymore, but I was for several years. I reintroduced meat at the recomendation of my doctor a few years ago. I eat meat about two to four times a week. When I reintroduced, I did it slowely and with small portions and it was totally fine. I will say though that pregnancy has made me much more of a meat eater. I'm probably up to five to six times a week while pregnant. I just have to have it. I think it's my body wanting the protein, that's my only explanation.
  • my cousin was a vegetarian for 7 years and had to travel to a foreign country where meat was the only option to eat. he said he ate it and didnt get sick so if you're having a craving, id eat it at home in case you got mild diarrhea and then once you have reintroduced it you should be fine.

  • I was a total veggie for 9 years - when I started to eat meat again I began with a couple servings of soup with chicken stock. I was so scared of getting sick. Then I had just one slice of lunch meat 3 times a day for a few more days (though that wouldnt work for you).

I eat mostly chicken and fish now (I usally have to force down the chicken, I really dont like it) and some pork. Never beef. I think cows are way too cute to eat - yes I am a nut case. All weekend I was craving a cheese burger like you wouldn't believe! I knew I couldn't trick myself with a turkey burger... the craving has gone away. lol

  • I did with this pregnancy, my fourth, only because the nausea/vomitting was so bad. My naturopathic doctor recommended increasing my protein intake to help combat the nausea so I starting eating organic chicken 1-2x per week. I didn't feel sick when I started eating it, or at least not any more sick than I was already feeling, though it really is hard to get it down. I've been veg/vegan for 10+ years and intend to go back to my regular veg diet when my nausea is under control...which I am hoping is any day now! (18 weeks and still suffering from all-day sickness)

This is kind of why I'm thinking about doing meat for awhile.  I've been so sick and am 17 weeks now.  I just feel very nutrient deprived in every way.  Plus, I'm having these weird cravings...and I'd like to only eat meat from Whole Foods because I know they only have free range, happy animal kind of meats.   Thanks for sharing...

I love Yves products!  I think they make the best veggie dog and lunch meats by far!

  • My BFF was vegetarian until pregnant.  Even now, 4 months post partum, she loves herself some bacon, lol.

I think cows are cute too (even though one actually almost killed me a few years ago!)  And...I have a  hard time with pork even though I remember liking it because I think (clean) pigs are pretty darn cute with lots of personality!
