Do you find it hard to find kid classes on Saturdays?

I am struggling with finding classes to sign up for with either my 3 year old or my 10 month old on Saturday mornings besides swimming.  I wanted to find something for my 3 year old- sports or karate but it seems like everything for that age group is during the week while I am working and he is in day care.  Then the little Mommy and me music classes for my 10 month old are week days classes too.  Anybody have any luck?

Re: Do you find it hard to find kid classes on Saturdays?

  • I work odd shifts and am able to do during the week and I still found it hard to find classes for my ds when he was 8m/o (when we first moved here).  many programs were for kids ages 3 and up.  gymbo and the little gym were booked.  blah.

for the 3y/o.... we have a lot offered on w/es but they fill up quick.  I've heard people register for soccer a year in advance.  there's gymnastics (not gymbo, but actual gymnastics/tumbling competitive gyms), dance, and ice skating starts around age 3 or 4 here.   check the local children's museum for art classes.    they are out there, they just fill up.  but if I'm off on the weekend, I'd rather have that time for the 4 of us. but we rarely have weekends off together.

  • Yes!  I would like something for DD to do and the Sat classes offered are much fewer.  Even the 'open gym' times are on the week days.  Frustrating!
  • I recently enrolled my two year old in a parent and tot gymnastics class on Saturday mornings.  The class is at a local gymnastics center but offered through our nearby city parks and recreation classes.  I think there are more options as they get older.  This class was for 16 months plus.

  • Check for a Gymboree in your area. Ours has lots of Saturday classes.

  • Look into Music Together classes - they are nationwide and usually offer lots of Saturday options. We've had DD in MT since she was 11 mos and she can continue until her 6th birthday.
  • Maybe it depends on the area... We have a gymboree class, gymnastics, and soccer all on a Saturday morning, there is also gymboree offered on Sundays too.  I will say that it is harder to get into those classes because they fill up quickly, but not impossible!

  • In the DC area, lack of Sat. classes is not a problem, but having the Sat. classes fill up quickly is the problem.  It's really hard to get a spot in a weekend class - lots of working parents around here I guess!

  • Not really.  My kids just finished ice skating lessons on Sats.  There is a library program on Sat AM that we take them too also (and it's free).  DS will start swimming again soon on Sat AM.  Soccer and Tball are on a weekday evening and Sat AM.

  • Try Gymboree - they have lots of classes on Saturdayand Sunday mornings

  • I haven't really done it, but our YMCA (we are members) offers some weekend morning tumbling classes for kids starting around age 2.
  • It annoys me as well. Not all of us can attend a class at 9 a.m. or 2 p.m. FIL is taking DS to a class for me, because I really wanted him to go to a certain place. Once he's in the next class up, I'll be able to take him.

THIS... I have to drive 40 min way to get to a Gymboree that has saturday classes.
