glad you asked this and looking forward to responses. this is something that has been bothering me too... my DS will only take a newborn nipple for his bottle or a newborn soothie. For some reason if I give him the 3+ months ones he spits them out.
He only uses when he is really stressed out, so I am not overly concerned, but I really don't understand what the differences are and how upset I should be about this and if I should force the 6 M+ ones?
I recently switch to the 6+ months. I feel like they're safer for him bc the plastic part is bigger and he can't fit it in his mouth. As PP said- he did refuse them for awhile, but he did that when I went from 0-3 to 3-6, as well. I just keep randomly trying, and eventually he takes it!
It's important to use the right size for their mouth/jaw development. DS was using the MAM 2+ month ones, and I couldn't find the ones he liked anymore so I gave him the 6+ month ones. He kept spitting them out for the first day but after that it was like nothing ever happened.

To be honest, I have no idea what size it is. He only has one that he likes (we have two of the same one in case we lose or can't find one). I think it may be 6+ since it always seemed big for him when he was younger.
We use the Avent 6-18 month pacifier now (though she just uses it for naps and bedtime). It took a few tries to get her to like it when we switched from the 0-6 month one. I think the 6 month plus ones are supposed to be better for the baby's mouth as teeth are coming in.
interesting... I am calling DS's pedi to ask about this as I want to know how big of a issue this is and what exactly if might do to his jaw development.
When I tried the 3+ month pacifiers (which I still try to this day) he rejects them all the time... he had rejected them for the past 5 months... so no way in heck he is going to magically start taking them. I think for him... it is either I let him keep his newborn soothie brand that he likes or I take it away for good. It will be a fight as when he is upset he sucks like no-one's business. he does not use for naps or actually sleeping... and I would say he uses 3-5 times a day for about 10 minutes at a time. At his 6 month the pedi said using a paci was fine and that she did not buy into the idea that they needed to be taken away at 6 months and said she has seen kids use them well past 2 years with no ill effects.
I just switched to the 6+ months Nuk ones. I asked my dentist and he said it is okay to use the 0-6 mos ones if he won't take the bigger ones. He said it wouldn't effect development of his teeth/jaw.
Ethan didn't start using a paci until he was closer to 4 months old. He was using the 0-3 month one then. when he was 6 months i switched it over to 3-6 months and i'll probably change that up to 6+ months when he's 8-9 months.
i didn't even think about the teeth/jaw thing... i thought i heard somewhere that the smaller pacifiers may increase ear infection in older babies because they suck harder. but i think that's for toddlers.

We use a 0-6 month NUK paci. I really want her to stop using it, but I am being a major wuss about taking it away.

Another new thing for me to stress about

We got rid of the paci about 6 weeks ago and it was MUCH easier than I expected (and she had a major attachment!).
He uses the NUK pacis and is still on the 0-6 month ones.
We do have the next size up (7-18 months) and have tried giving it to him but it just pops out as the nipple on it is quite a bit bigger.
