My doctor wants to schedule an induction for next Tuesday. Our plan was to deliver at the Maple Grove Hospital, but she told me today that most of the scheduled inductions at MG are being canceled because they are too busy.
The other hospital my doctor delivers at is Fairview Southdale. She said I can take a chance and try to schedule it at MG (which would also mean that I wouldn't have my current doctor) or I can schedule it a FS and my doctor would be there.
I'm hoping to hear some experieces:-)
Re: Tell me about Fairview Southdale Hosp.
I don't have any personal experience at FV Southdale. However I do know they have a very high c-section and medical intervention rate there.
That is one of the reasons I started looking at my other opinions and switched from my OB who delivers at Southdale to a MW who delivers at Methodist as I am looking to have a natural of birth as possible.
If you are uncomfortable with anything you Dr is recommending you do, I would make sure you voice those opinion to him/her. Why are you being induced? If there is no medical reason and just because you are nearing or at your due date, you don't have to be induced if you don't want to.
Good Luck! Hope you find something that works for you and your Dr.
One thing to consider in regards to the high rate of c/s and medical interventions is that 1) They handle a large number of births and 2) They handle many high risk pg, that require c/s and medical interventions.
I spent 15 days on bed rest on the L&D floor, and had just about every nurse there care for me and my family. I honestly cannot say a bad word about any one of them. Everyone was fantastic, and though I had to have a c/s because of a complicated twin pg, I can't imagine them pushing anyone in a direction that they didn't want/need to go. I and my family were all comfortable there during my stay - my experience, given the circumstances, was extremely positive from beginning to end! I'd definitely deliver there again in a heartbeat - even though it is further away from our home than many other hospitals.

I also delivered at FV and had a wonderful experience- the nurses were fantastic, one even stayed hours after her shift ended to stay with us and take pictures (which turned out to be the most sentimental, touching photos we have of that day)
I do agree with the first post that it is important to ask lots of questions and challenge your doc about the decision to induce. I was induced as my baby was measuring small (he's totally fine). I pushed the induction back about six days and was glad I did b/c my body was starting to go into labor when I went in to the hospital, and the induction was a breeze after that.
Good luck with whatever you decide! Such an exciting time!
I loved FVSD hospital! Nothing bad to say about them.
I loved the nurses and I Love my DR!
