replacing velcro- how much does it cost?

I bulked up my stash some last week with some used BG's. They were used for a year and are in pretty good shape but I think they will need the velcro changed sooner rather than later. So, for anyone that has had velcro replaced, how much did it cost, and where did you get it done?

Oh and also...is there really a difference between velcro, aplix, hook and loop? It's all the same.....right?

  • The Cotton Babies kits are great, and very easy to use since everything is pre-cut for you. But it *is* cheaper to buy aplix on your own. To give you an idea, I paid about $12 including shipping for a bunch of it from www.verybaby.com... I've made I think 5 complete diapers (which use way more aplix than just tab replacements) and replaced tabs on a couple of BG's, and I still have over half of it left.

As for the differences between velcro/aplix/H&L... "hook" and "loop" are the generic names for the two different sides, if that makes sense. The "hook" side is the scratchy side and the "loop" side is the soft side.

Velcro and aplix are different brand names for specific types of hook and loop. Another common one is touchtape. They are NOT the same. Velcro is low quality and expensive, NOT recommended for diapers. Aplix and touchtape are both fine for diapers. Aplix is usually considered to be a little softer, touchtape a little stronger. Just personal preference as to which one you want to use.

To give you a more familiar analogy, "hook and loop" = facial tissues, while Velcro = Kleenex, aplix = Puffs, touchtape = Walgreens brand, etc. Make sense?
