Sleeping with a blanket

When can baby sleep with a blanket? I use sleep sacks and they are great I am just thinking of maybe a small blanket to cuddle with?  She is fully mobile so I know she could move it off her face if she got covered but will she instinctivly do this if asleep?  When did you let your LO have a blanket??

Re: Sleeping with a blanket

  • I would let DS have a blanket now, personally, but he moves around so much in the crib it would be pretty much useless.

  • I've let DS have a blanket since day 1.  I know that's against "the rules" though.

  • Annabelle has had one since it started getting cold. Even when she was swaddled. Once she started rolling is when we un-swaddled her and let her just sleep with the blanket. She loves it, there is no way she'd sleep with out it.

  • I have been letting my daughter sleep with a blanket for the past couple months. I usually let her use a small afghan just because sometimes she covers up to her nose.
  • DD sleeps with one. I figure at this point she's big enough to know to move it out of her own face if she needed to.

She doesn't move around the crib, so we don't have that issue to contend with.

  • She's slept with one for a few months now. We lay her down on her back and cover her up, but she always rolls over to sleep on her stomach. The blanket usually ends up in a corner by morning.

  • DD has been sleeping with a blanket since about 5 - 6 months maybe?  It doesn't stay on now that she's super mobile, but sometimes she'll snuggle up with it.  She loves it when she's first falling asleep.
  • I've been puting a blanket in DD's crib for a while now.  Maybe since 7 or 8 months old?  DD does move around a lot in her sleep, but it gives me comfort to know that when I put her to bed, she's nice a warm and cozy.  Right before I go to bed myself, I go into her room to make sure the blanket isn't in her face and to put it back on top of her.  Lately she uses it to cuddle with.  She hugs it while she sleeps.  It's so cute.

  • DS has slept with a blanket and lovey since 7.5 months. He loves to snuggle with the blanket and it helps him self-soothe.

  • I've let DD sleep with a blanket for a month or so.  She likes to snuggle with it.  At first I gave her a crochet blanket so I felt okay with her having it in the crib, but now she has a more snugglie blanket.
  • I won't give LO a blanket until 12 months, at least.  He is very mobile in his crib so I know it wouldn't stay on him.  My understanding of SIDS is not only stopping breathing but also, having something too close to the face so that they breathe in too much carbon dioxide. I'm not open to any chances. No blankets for us.
  • My little guy has had one since 9 months. I figure if he is smart enough to play peek-a-boo, and pull one over and off his own head he is probably fine. Usually he piles it up into a ball and cuddles with it. The blankie he sleeps with is also crocheted so there are lots of little holes in it.

  • I'd been putting one on her - just for naps cause I could check on her. Today when i went in to get her from hr morning nap it was totally over her face, like completely. It freaed me the heck out, especially cause she is a tummy sleeper, so she rolled over and pulled it up somehow. Thank goodness it was a crochet one with holes, still, it scared me! I won't be using one again til she gets older and could remove it herself.
  • We started using a blanket with DS when we deswaddled him at around 5 months.  He has become really attached to it and can't sleep without it now.  He likes to rub it on his cheek as he is falling asleep.  He snuggles with it all night and it is about the cutest thing I have ever seen!
