Changing Table or Not?

I am looking at a changing table that matches my Davinic Kalani crib. It has three drawers, and changing pad on top. It looks like it can be used as a dresser after (and during with the drawers I guess) because the top doesn't look that much like a CT. I also heard they are a waste of money, but figure instead of dropping 100 bucks on one that can just be used as a CT, I would so this an use as a dresser, too after. What are your thoughts on them? Here is the table. What do you think? By the way it's 250.00.

Re: Changing Table or Not?

  • We are actually buying a dresser that also has the option of a changing table attachment. That way, when we are done with it, we can just remove the attachment and the dresser will be usable all through our kid's childhood. I would personally consider something like this instead of more of a changing table style, as I've heard from people who buy the changing table style that they eventually buy a new dresser to replace it, and then you've spent twice as much money overall.

  • That is exactly what I had with DD and will use with DS.  I personally used mine at almost every diaper change...

I will keep it as my DS dresser as well...

  • We have put the changing table on the WANT side not the NEED side.  There are other places we can change the baby (in the crib, on our bed).  Plus our playard has a changing table on it as well.  When you have to budget I say Changing table is a NOT

  • Our baby room is too small for a large dresser so we bought a change table.   DD is over two and I still use it for her.   We've bought new furniture for her new bedrooma dn will continue to use the change table and crib with baby #2.   All the baby furniture will go when #2 is done with the crib.

  • I bought a 6 drawer dresser from Target for $65.00 that I added a changing pad to.

You had the Kalani or the dresser with attachment?

  • We are just going to buy a regular dresser to match the crib, no CT.  I think it's kind of a waste of money to buy a separate CT if you can get a regular dresser that matches the crib.  Plus it's going to be too much space taken up in our nursery if we get a crib, dresser, CT AND glider.

My mom actually had the funniest reaction to the CT debate.  She was like, "Why the heck would you spend so much money on that?  I just put a darn blanket on the floor to change you, and you turned out fine!"  lol.

  • We got a nice dresser and put a changing pad on top. I will only have babies to change for a few years and the dresser will be used for much longer

  • I have had several friends who have had babies give me the advice not to buy a changing table. Basically they say it is a waste of money (yes, it holds diapers, but you basically change the baby wherever). So, we are buying a dresser and going to put a changing pad on top instead of spending the additional money to get a changing table.

BTW, I like that one. The one I am looking at is similar to that and also (a whopping, eesh) $250 (not happy about the price, but I am having trouble finding a matching dresser to go with our crib).

  • for DS we received a free changing table from a friend, and used it downstairs (where we spent most of our time with DS)... and we'll be doing the same for this LO. after about 3/4 months, we started changing on the floor on a blanket. but the changing table was nice for storage of diapers/wipes/creams/blankets...& everything else to come with a newborn/infant.
i find no need for a changing table to "match" bedroom furniture. we will just be buying a dresser, which you can put a changing pad on top of. that way the piece of furniture won't go to waste after, and can be used for what we bought it for.

  • I think that's very pretty! The price is great.

We plan on just getting a regular dresser and using that as our changing table.

  • It's completely up to you of course but my opinion is the furniture that has the pad already with it tends to be thin and flimsy. I wanted the one attached to the crib already and when I went to look at it in person couldn't see putting a newborn on something that thin. (IMO) I chose to go with a dresser and getting a changing station thingy imagehttps://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4345612 This way I can also take this into the bathroom with  me when I give the baby a bath.

  • I say not. Though DH and I are planning on having more kids the changing table just seemed like a waste since you'll only be using it for about a year or so. Personally we decided to purchase a dresser and put the changing pad on top.
  • I bought a dresser at a gsale for $20 and painted it white and added the changing pad on top.

  • We purchased a dresser/changer combo from JCP.  It is by Bedford Baby and is part of the Dylan line.  It has guards that can be put on the top sides for changing or left off and just used with a changing pad on top.  I personally feel a straight changing table is a waste of money based on what I've heard from other moms.

We use an old desk with a pad attached to it and I have to say I like it more than a what you're showing because there is room for a basket of diapers and other supplies. I don't think this is really bad, but I'd get something is either longer or has the option have having the changing part come up entirely.

I'm thinking of getting this of the second kid and putting a pad on it  --

  • I am also considering this option. For those of you who have one similar...are the drawers big enough for future use of a dresser??

  • I got the Sorelle Cape Cod crib plus attached changer.

its beautiful and can be converted to a toddler bed, and then a full sized bed later.

  • We are planning to get the other two dressers that go with the Kalani crib and just put a diaper pad on one of them. I just personally don't really like the look of the CT dresser because of the top of it (when it comes to being used after being a CT).

  • I use my changing table so much, I think it is totally worth buying one!
