UN-believable ... update on thyroid/hasimoto's

have an appointment with my RE next week to discuss my theory.  but before the appointment i wanted to check to see what thyroid tests have been done.

this month, my TSH was normal (1.06) and in february of last year my thyroid antibody level was less than 10.  which ... for someone without other autoimmune conditions, or symptoms, would be considered normal.  but since i have several closely related autoimmunes (vilitigo, pernicious anemia) ... the mere presence of antibodies ... even with a normal TSH should have indicated further investigation.

now i totally understand that i could be treated for this thyroid problem and still not be able to get pregnant ... but i am LIVID, that this was not more pursued by my RE.  and i go to Columbia-Pres ... a top notch institition.  i will be 42 in 3 weeks ... time is not on my side.  if i don't conceive, i will always wonder if i had been treated earlier would that have been the push i needed???

anyway ... in terms of fertility, this really depresses me ... however, i'm pretty happy to have maybe discovered this issue prior to it causing more problems.

I can only imagine your frustration and anger/annoyance.  It really goes to show you that doctors don't know everything and you must be your own advocate.  I hope you can get it figured out and end up PG!

This! You have to be your own advocate!! My sister was pregnant and THEN they discovered her thyroid condition even though she had been complaining about symptoms. She told the nurse she wanted her to double check the results with the Dr and it turns out they had read the wrong test results over the phone. I hope you get your answers and that this is your year : )

Ok, I completely understand how you feel.  I am only going to say this in the hopes that it makes you feel better (along the lines of "I'll always wonder about this...."), not to excuse your doctor.  That is:  my understanding is that thyroid antibodies are so different, and less than 10 is really SO low...that I'm not entirely sure that that result, even with other autoimmune issues, would have been cause for alarm.  To put it in perspective, I had *raging* Graves disease and my antibodies were at 395 this time last year (range of 1-129); now they're at 111 and that's totally great (for me).

Anyway: again, I'm just trying to give you a little peace.  If it doesn't, then disregard!

lhc .. i TOTALLY get what your saying and appreciate the thoughts.

i realize that less than 10 is pretty insignificant ... i guess i just would have expected that my RE would pursue it a bit more aggressively considering my other circumstances.  i realize that tx may have little or no impact on my fertility ... it's just a bummer to add another thing to the mix.
