I'm scared to death to ever get pregnant again

This is just something I want to get off my chest... sorry for the rambling!!

I have always wanted atleast 3 kids.  I was hoping to maybe get pregnant again in a couple of years but now I am scared to death.. .  During my c-section a week ago my OB was alarmed at the condition of my uterus.  She said it was so thin that she could see my son through it and it would have ruptured if I labored more or tried a VBAC.  This has given me nightmares since DS was born a week ago because I did concider doing a VBAC.

I asked my OB if this means I should be done having children.  She said it was fine to have more kids...  I just would NEED a c/s and had to be very careful that I did not go into labor and would probably have the baby a little bit earlier.

I know she is the OB and I am not a Dr.... but this just seems like a risky situation to me.  I am truly scared to get pregnant and all of a sudden having my uterus rupture because its weak and thin.

At this point I think I need to be thankful for my two miracles and be done having kids.

Of course I plan on talking to my OB more at my follow up appts... just wanted to get this out.  Thanks if you got through my rambling.

I am in the same situation.  I delivered DS at 36 weeks (scheduled c-section due to c-section with my twins) due to the potential to go into labour and my MFM said my uterine wall was thinner than he anticipated.  If I was to get pregnant again I would likely need a c-section at 35 weeks.

That really scares me due to the potential for severe complications and I'm leaning towards being happy with DS and being done.

Not to at all discount your OB's opinion and I'm not a doctor (studying to be a midwife so I have the medical background somewhat but not NEARLY as much as n OB clearly) but "windows" in the uterus are VERY VERY VERY common and do not lead to rupture. I'd want to know, in relation to the "window" she observed, where SHE cut. Did she cut the window? Because if she did and then stitched that, I'd want a complete work-up second opinon on the healing rate for that process. Its not necessarily BAD to cut the window.

80% of ruptures are from window-ing (and it can occur in an unscarred uterus - no previous sections - they don't contract well, etc) and 20 are catestrphoic scar rupture.

At term, a scarred uterus is 1-2mm thick regardless. You're not a good candidate for a VBAC. You can have your scar/window measured with a good technician. I have a link (at home) - I'll post it later that will likely set you at more ease about any future potential pregnancies.

I am like you, except I didn't have any issues.  But I worry about getting pregnant again - I have read that pregnancy is the riskiest time in any woman's life - so many complications can happen.  I had 2 fairly easy pregnancies, and I worry that if I rolled the dice and tried for a 3rd, something bad could happen.

But I really would like a 3rd child.  We are not trying now, so I will wait and see how I feel again in a few months.  It still makes me nervous, though!

I think it was where the first c/s incision was... but I will have to ask her next week at my appt.

I am sorry but I dont follow what you are saying about the second opinion-  is the healing process different (as in slower) for people in this situation?  She did not tell me anything about this.  I would love to see that link.  thanks!

My uterus was stretched beyond belieft with my twins and I had c/s almost exactly a year after my first one. My ob said he would not recommend me every trying a VBAC because of the state of my uterus but there was no reason I could have more children providing I had c/s.

Link - focused on VBAC as an option which I'm not suggesting you're in the position to elect. I'm not one of those "YOU MUST TRY VBAC" maniacs. I just think this link has covered a lot of information, reality of risks, and looks at it from a non-alarmist non-fabricated EMERGENCY position.
