Speaking of illness

Some of you may have seen my FB posts, but now all 3 of my guys are sick.  DH came home at lunchtime today because of this dreaded stomach virus.

Lucky me, all 3 of the guys have been sleeping since 1 PM.  It's now 5 PM.  Do I wake them?  Ordinarily I would let them sleep, but I'm going to need MY sleep tonight and I don't want to stay up all night with them.  What would you do?

Re: Speaking of illness

  • Ugh, that sounds like the opposite of fun. Honestly, no fun at all.

If it makes you feel any better (misery loves company, right?), as soon as I responded to your post, below, my mom called to tell me that Jacob yarfed all over the family room. Ick! When I called to check in, an hour ago, DH informed me that his throat hurts. I'm not sure what is worse - boy vom or man cold. Is it wrong that I'm not in a real hurry to get home, tonight?

To answer your question, I'd probably just let them sleep. If they weren't sick, I'd be more inclined to wake them; however, when I'm truly ill, I could sleep the majority of the day away and STILL sleep overnight.

This made me laugh.  Such a way with words.

Katie - I am so sorry the boys are all sick!  At least if it was still (or ever) warm, you could open windows and maybe fresh air would make it feel less like an infirmary.

    HA HA HA!!!

Didn't I ever tell you about my husband, the one with allergies?  When he bought this house (before ever even meeting me),  he knew he would never open the windows, since his seasonal allergies are so bad.

HE REMOVED ALL OF THE SCREENS FROM THE WINDOWS.  Opening the windows is a pipe dream.

  • Instead of buying that house, he should've bought a house in the desert!

Oh well, On the next nice day, you can come to my house where the windows will all be open (with screens) and cocktails will be flowing.  I hope Tom is feeling better by then since he'll be hanging out with the boys!

  • I'm so sad for you. That's hard about letting them sleep. I'd almost want to wake them, just so you don't have to worry about them not sleeping tonight. But I also hate to wake sleeping, sick children (and husbands).

In all honesty, I'd probably just end up letting my DS sleep if he was still napping. I probably couldn't bring myself to wake him up. Which is why I'm probably up a few times most nights - so take that advice for what it's worth!

Good luck, and hoping it's a quick illness in your household!

Oh I can so relate.  I love a nice spring day when I can have the windows open and a breeze going through the house.. and dh's allergies basically prevent that luxury from ever happening.  Please do NOT tell him, under any circumstances, that your husband removed the screens... he might think that is genius.  I, however, will leave the back screen door cracked on days when I *know* he won't be home for several hours.  It's heavenly.

  • I should add that I would have let them sleep.  When they're that sick, they need the rest.  And the last time I had a stomach bug, I think I slept 40 out of 48 hours.
  • Good lord. A house without windows to open might as well be a prison to me. I need fresh air. You could put some bars on the windows and read Megs book (What Are Those Bars On the Windows at Daddy's House?) to J & T. Wink

Hope everyone starts feeling better soon!
