Strep throat in toddler

Anyones LO here have had a strep throat ? My LO has had a wet cough and a runnny nose since yesterday. Over nite he had a temp of 101 but went down after i gave him some ibuprofen. Didn't have much for lunch but was complaining of stomach ache and then vomitted. I called the nurse and she thinks he might have strep throat. have a drs appt. in a couple of hours...just wanted to know if anyone else had something similar?

thanks!

Re: Strep throat in toddler

  • I'm on day 4 of DS having a wet cough, he threw up on Thursday and Friday, totally congested. I have a Dr. appt. at 4:30.

  • K had strep last summer but didn't have any of those symptoms that I can remember.  He def. didn't throw up and I can't remember a wet cough.  Hope your LO feels better soon!
  • i don't know why anyone would assume strep based off of those symptoms - there are tons of stomach bugs going around that = fever + vomiting....

Gibson had strep a couple weeks ago and just had a high fever and was miserable- doc checked him and his throat was swollen and red.

That what I was thinking. What an odd guess to give over the phone. Anyway, my DS has been tested for it several times, but it turned out to be mono once and tonsillitis the other times. His throat was just really red with the tonsillitis and with the mono it was full of puss bags (*gag* - sorry). Even though he has yet to have strep, I thought I would answer since they thought he did and vomiting and runny nose weren't what made them think he did. It was what his throat looked like.

Hope your LO feels better soon!

  • DD just got tested twice and both negative. Dr. has told me a lot that it is really rare for a toddler under 2 to get strep, but there is always a few that do. Good luck I hope LO is feeling better
