For those of you that are pregnant with/already have twins, how soon and how did you find out? Just curious!

I'm pregnant with my first, my mom joked the other day about my belly being so big the other day she thinks I'm having twins! Just got me thinking...! Would love to hear stories!

I am NOT pregnant with twins, but my SIL was and she found out at 8 weeks at her first ultrasound. Her practice (which is also the one I go to) typically does a vaginal u/s around 8 to 10 weeks when they first see you for dating purposes. If you have had an ultrasound, you would know already.

Otherwise, I guess you would have to wait until either the NT Scan at 12 weeks (if you opted for it) OR the anatomy scan. I know there are other ways to find out (two heartbeats and such, but my doc couldn't even hear my baby's heartbeat until the 12 week appointment and at that point I had already had two ultrasounds.

It can be hard to spot a twin at early U/S (that are not vaginal). There was a girl due in June with me, who didn't know until her anatomy scan at 20 weeks.

I have heard the heartbeat twice, but have not had an ultrasound. I'm almost 18 weeks but my doctor does not do u/s until now My first one will be next Monday! I could not be more excited!!

I have twins and found out at my 8 week ultrasound. It's the only way to know for sure!

we found out at 5 weeks....we did IVF so we weren't terribly suprised. If you have had an ultrasound already-they probably would have noticed if there was another baby.

We heard just one heartbeat at our 12 week appt (didn't really need to find another that we knew of) and then we went back for our 16 week appt and my uterus seemed bigger for how far along I was so we did an ultrasound and there were two!

I had a dating ultrasound at 7 w 1day. My doctor was instantly able to tell I was having twins. I can detect their separate heartbeats easily on my doppler as well.
