Traveling at 4.5 months vs 6.5 months

WWYD?  I live in Atlanta but both my DH's and my families live in the Caribbean.  We don't have any family here in Atlanta, so we want to go visit our families before the baby is due in August.  Plus, we have 2 new nieces (born last Oct and this Feb) that we are dying to meet.

Since this is my first pregnancy, I don't know what to expect as time goes on.  Right now, my nausea has started to subside and I'm feeling more like my old self.  Would you make this trip at 4.5 months (late March) or 6.5 months pregnant (mid-May)?

Thanks for your input!

Re: Traveling at 4.5 months vs 6.5 months

  • If it were me, the earlier I could go, I would.  You never know how big and uncomfortable you will be at 6.5 months.. at least you know you are feeling human right now.

  • If you have a choice I'd say to travel in March. The earlier in the pregnancy the better.

  • It wouldn't really matter much to me, although I might take into consideration how hot it would be there in May vs March. I'm a real baby about the heat, though.

LOL.  No difference in the temp really.  It's like 90 degrees year-round.  Though lugging around a big belly might make it a bit more difficult to stand the heat.

  • I agree with the other ladies.. the earlier the better.. Just check with your doctor to get clearance and you should be good to go. Have Fun!  DH and I are going to St. Croix for a wedding in April. I will be 5 months.

I already asked my doctor.  She said I can travel up until 36 weeks, if all goes well with the pregnancy.

I hope you enjoy your time in St. Croix!

  • I'd rather do it at 4.5 months. I have to travel for work, and am trying to stop at 6 months.

this. I drove from Arkansas to Florida for thanksgiving when pregnant with ds--I was 7 months along. It was a nightmare, and the longest 19 hour drive of my life. Even though you are flying, you'll still be uncomfortable. I'd say go early.

St. Croix.  LOL.  Both DH and I grew up there.  I moved from there to Atlanta 5 years ago, but I usually go back at least once per year to visit family.

LOL!! This will be DH and I first time.  Our very good friend (the bride) is from there.  It will be so much fun. We are very excited.  Enjoy your trip with your family!
