Hello All,

We just had our little girl on Feb 25.  She has been having trouble breathing since she was born,  Right after delivery she was rushed to the NICU.

After evaluation they came back and told us she was placed on the vent and they noticed several other abnormalities.  She has overlapping fingers, high arches in her feet and a very pronounced forehead. 

As of now she is breathing without the vent but with high flow oxygen.  When the oxygen is lowered her breathing becomes more shallow.  They are also telling us that she is "floppy" she has little to no support in her head and neck and is not swallowing or sucking.  We are waiting for further test results to come back to tell us more. In the mean time we wait and wait and wait. 

Did any of you all have similar issues with your lo?  I am a total basket case. I cry all the time.  I wish I could be happy that we just had a baby but instead I am scared, mad, upset, worried....

    most of us have been in your shoes.  it's very scary. and all of the emotions you are feeling are just par for the course.

    it will be overwhelming and you will want the doctors to stop pointing out everything that is "wrong" with her.  just try to remember that they are there to help here.  when my son was born he went right to the NICU as well.  he also had/has hypotonia, poor suck/swallow, seizures--amongst other things (prominent forehead, hypospadias, small hands, etc).  what they are seeing can mean many things.  they will probably ask you to do genetic testing.  it all is certainly an emotional roller coaster.

    there are great people on this board who have tons of knowledge!  feel free to ask anything!

    We were in a similar situation when Carson was born. Not knowing is the worst part.  You have to take some time to grieve.  PP was right, this is an emotional roller coaster, so please come here to vent.  These ladies understand.

    Carson Henry, born 39w, 2d, via emergency c/s due to no fetal movement and fetal distress.  Seizures, IVH grade 2, brain injury, kidney and liver damage.  Complete blood clot in the artery in his right arm.  27 days in the NICU.  Now discharged from all specialists, excepts his kidney doctor, who will monitor him indefinitely.  My tough little cookie.
