3rd Trimester

Pre labor questions

First I am curious how many of you that have already had a baby had it at 36-37weeks.  If so what was the outcome?  Second, I have been having a lot of pressure and pain in my pelvic region.  Sometimes it feels like my pelvis is being pulled apart or my little one is trying to push his body through my lower abdomen.  It is different then RLP that I have had.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I am also having lots of period cramping and frequent soft bowl movements.  I have been having BH for the past 3 weeks but the last 2 days they are definately more intense.  Has anyone else felt this way shortly before going into labor or is this typical stuff to feel 3 -4 weeks before delivery?  Thanks for any input!

Re: Pre labor questions

  • If you feel like you might be having prelabor pains and you are not full term contact your doctor. How any one baby does is not a judge of how your baby will do, and 36 weeks is still considered a premature birth. Get on the phone with your doctor and discuss your concerns with them- I'm shocked by how few OBs appear to have a laid plan for early labor symptoms prior to 37 weeks!

  • If you are concerned, definitely give your doctor a call.  They may want to check you to be safe.

As for my experience, to answer your questions, I have had the pressure and pain in my pelvic region since about 35 weeks. At times it is unbearable, but my doc said it was normal and it's probably the baby pushing on your cervix.  It actually has been a little better since about 37 weeks, but I still experience it stronger on some days.  I also had the cramping around 35/36 weeks and my doc also said that was normal and my body was just preparing for labor.  I believe I remember him saying it's typically just thinning out your cervix. I'm still here at 39 weeks, and still experience these symptoms off and on.

However, it is different for every woman, and it's always better to be safe than sorry, so a call to the doctor to ease your nerves might help.

  • I have been feeling cramping, pelvic pain and it feels as if the baby is going to come out. My Dr. told me it was normal but I would def tell your Dr. just to bs on the safe side.
