I voted with where we will be after LO is born - since I plan to become a SAHM. Even though right now, I make more than DH. So our income will be decreasing 50%.

ya, the ranges were kinda wide....but I hear ya...you could make these polls like a million options! haha
I'd be interested to see where the votes for each income range are in regards to location across the country. I feel like it would be impossible to live on some of the lower incomes here....and I'm sure to others it feels like the higher incomes are racking in the dough, when in reality they're just making it in some cases!
I voted as to what we have currently. I'm not sure how much what our household income will be next year b/c I haven't decided if I'm going to take a year off or if I will go back in the classroom second semester. We certainly aren't rolling in dollar bills and wiping our tushies with it, thats for sure.
We live in medium cost of living area and we have 2 years of my gross salary in savings as a buffer (I wouldnt feel comfortable SAH for a year if we didn't have it, b/c I'm not totally comfortable not bringing in any income). We don't have SL debt, and his car will be paid off in November.
I think debts are also important to consider when thinking about household income. Some folks have good income and a ton of consumer debt.
It honestly makes me a little nervous to think that we will be down about 1/3rd of our income next year, but I try to take comfort in that we have planned for it and continue to try to live below our means.

Agreed! It would be interesting to see the regional differences. When DH and I were in Orange County, Ca our income was nothing to be desired for the area. However, If I were to tell people here in TN what we were making out there it would sound like we were making the big bucks. There are so many factors that come into play with this! I also voted according to our "new income" since I will be a Stay-at-home-mom. I have to admit it hasn't changed too much...archaeologists don't exactly make a whole lot..lol

We are definately on the low end but where we live we are ok. We hate debt an having unncessary bills so we are doing ok. Anywhere else we would be on welfare.

But I voted for what we have now...

We are on the low end of the one that I picked and I voted on what we have now not what we will have after LO comes as I will only be working part time
My husband took a pay cut in joining the Army, (from previously working offshore in the Gulf of Mexico), but at the time, it was what was best for us. Where we are stationed now (Fayetteville, NC), we do pretty good. Since we moved into a cheaper place last month, we're able to save a lot more money. Back home, (Olympia, WA), we'd be pushing it to be able to get a decent (but small) 3 bedroom apartment if we were lucky, with only DH working. (When we had DS, we had a small 1 bdrm apartment w/ a small loft over the kitchen (so like a 2nd bdrm), and it was $860 a month. We had a HUGE 2 bdrm apartment when we first moved here to NC, and paid more, ($925), but the apartments were brand-spanking new, and came with A LOT of amenities. The cost of living here vs. there is drastically different. Also... our income fluctuates a bit, year to year, because of Deployments and such.
I agree that COL makes a *huge* difference. We're one of the lower options on this poll, but we're at/above average household income for our area.
I agree about the COL. We are in a very high COL area and we have a lot of debt (mh's huge law school loans), so even though our gross income may seem high, in reality it's not.
I agree with all the above comments! While both h and I have large salaries, we had 2 houses in ny that weren't selling on top of our house here in so cal ( one was my house, one was his, we relocated here for my job) so while it seems like we make a lot, we were paying 8k a month in houses! One finally sold so now we are just paying for 2, but it's still significant. We are really hoping to get an offer on the other NY house by the time LO arrives!

Re: Clicky poll - household income?
I think your choices are too big a gap, were on the very lower end of 31-60, around 32k a year

Interesting poll though!
