J has settled a little bit into sleeping at night - he sleeps for 3.5 to 4 hours and then wakes up for food/diaper change, rock back to sleep, and then comes the noisy hours. He will be asleep, but grunts, moans, roars, squawks - it sounds awful and makes it impossible for me to fall back asleep. He is usually asleep for another 4 hours, but I am staring at the ceiling/checking him in the sleeper.
He is almost 7 weeks, and from Dr. Google, it looks like this is totally normal, but OMG, how am I supposed to get some sleep? Right now, I stay awake from 2 to 6:30 or so and then DH takes over while I sleep from 7 to 10. I don't have to go back to work for 8 more weeks, thank goodness.
He is sleeping in a Rock and Play Sleeper on an incline. He takes Zantac for reflux, although I don't think it has made that much of a difference. I do wonder if he might be congested, so we're going to try saline drops before bed tonight.
If your LO was a noisy sleeper, when did s/he quiet down? I really don't want to move him to the nursery yet.
Re: Noisiest baby ever!
No, Warner is 23 months old today (*sob*) and he's still a very noisy sleeper. Lots of sighing, heavy breathing and now he randomly talks and laughs in his sleep. I know it sounds bad, but I can't stand sleeping in the same room as him and I keep the volume on the video monitor turned all the way down.
And for that reason, he was moved into his crib, in his room right around 3 weeks! Granted, at that age, I wasn't turning the volume down on the monitor and was still jumping up and checking on him for just about every little sound, but ultimately we both slept better once we were in separate rooms.
If you don't feel ready to move him into his room yet, then by all means wait until you feel comfortable. But I've had a lot of my mom friends wait and wait to move their babies into their cribs and then once they did it they said "why did we wait so long?!" because the transition ended up being great for everyone.
Ditto this, pretty much exactly. (Except J turns *18 months* tomorrow, ack! Where does the time go?) Once he moved out and was sleeping longer stretches, we all slept better. Seriously, if he's asleep but you're awake from 2-6:30, that's no fun for anybody.

Like pp's all three of my kids moved to the nursery around 4-5 weeks for this very reason.
I like the idea of ear plugs. I actually wear them now - the wax ones - they muffle the sound, so you still hear if baby needs something, but you may be able to doze/sleep better. I started wearing them this summer when I had surgery and I HAD to get sleep to recover. They muffle DH's snoring and cut out other random noises, but I can still hear DS over the monitor.
Like pps, I moved LO into his crib at 6 weeks for this reason. OMG, he was noisy, and I would sit straight up at any noise he made. I would also pick him up, which would wake him up, and I finally realized it was no good for anyone, including him. You being up from 2-6 because of his noises while he sleeps is not healthy, and it is unnecessary (IMO). Put him in his room and get a monitor (an Angelcare if it would give you more peace of mind) and get some SLEEP!
DD is still a really noisy/active sleeper! When she was a newborn the snorting/grunts/moans were so loud and she now has added giggling, talking and super loud snoring to the list.
We put her in her own room the second night she was home because it was so loud.
That's why both of my kids moved into the nursery at 3 weeks. DD is still a noisy sleeper. Not sure when DS quieted down--maybe at around 6 months when his sleep got more regular just in general?
Congestion can be caused by reflux, so if you don't think the Zantac is working, you might want to mention it to your pedi.
