Babies: 3 - 6 Months

I freaking hate my pump!

Seriously, I paid $300 for a POS.  The suction is totally shiity even when I pump both sides, and today I somehow only put one bottle in my pump bag, so I can only pump one side at a time, and even with the little plug thing in the other side, I get NO suction when pumping one side.  This morning I got about 1.5 oz from one side when normally I would get between 3 and 5 oz.  I am so mad I want to take it out back and beat it with a baseball bat, Office Space style.

Re: I freaking hate my pump!

  • Same thing goes on with my pump all the freaking time. It works like a champ one day and like crap the next. I noticed the better mood I put myself in prior to pumping the more milk I achieve. Relaxed is the best way to go. Give yourself a little break and try again in an hour and see if that doesn't help.

  • I have an Ameda and found that b/c I used to pump 6-8x/day and still pump 5x/day I need to replace the valves at least once a month to keep the pump working its best.  I also found that since I clean and sterilize aloth the valves and diaphragms can get tears in them which decreases the suction.  Try checking the parts for tears or just replacing them and see if it helps.
  • I felt the exact same way and even looked into getting a new motor. I found I needed to eliminate all distractions, listen to quiet music, and look at pics of LO to pump effectively. The more I stressed, the worse it got. Try to relax and take a few deep breathes. I gave up keeping track and just let it go and everything just sort of worked itself out. Good luck!

  • Thanks for all the advice.  I can't re-pump in an hour because I'm at work, so I only get 3 chances to pump per day :oP  It is a Medela, but I don't think it's from the recalled lot, but I guess I can call and see if they'll send me a new one.  I'm thinking about just throwing the stupid thing out and buying an Ameda.

Definitely call them. Even if they are not part of the recalled lot, it sounds like it is defected. Hope they send you a new one!

Even if it isn't a recalled one, I'm pretty sure there is a year manufacturer's warranty.  Suction loss, I assume, would be covered,

  • Mine gets cranky, too.

I ditto the relax and also massage your breasts while pumping, it helps me a LOT.
