What is your shopping addiction?

What is one thing (or more) that you probably have too many of, but can't stop buying?  How about for your LO?

Re: What is your shopping addiction?

  • Jeans and purses. I justify the jeans because I have them in a variety of sizes to accommodate the fluctuation of the size of my a$$. I have no such excuse for the purses.

I just recently started really enjoying buying DD clothes. I used to just put her in jammies all of the time, but now I like putting her in cute girly clothes. I think this is going to be trouble.

I have a horrible shoe fetish and buy 3-4 pairs a month. DH gets made at me, but I can't help it when I find a good sale. =]

  • Me:  Books.  We have probably upwards of 1000 by now and I keep buying more.

Girls:  Clothes.  Any kind of clothes.  It bugs me when I notice clothes are getting too tight and we don't have the next size up available immediately.

  • For me, books.  For DS, footed pjs and surprise surprise, books.
  • Dog toys. I'm better now but I used to have a hard time holding back. They have way too many.

For DS it's shoes. He can't even wear most yet, but if I see a brand I like at a consignment store or sale, I can't help myself. I'll spend $8 on shoes, but talk myself out of spending $1 on something like a shirt. I'll probably have a kid that hates to wear shoes.

  • I don't really have one for myself. I adore my Texture clothes, but I wear them all, and I haven't purchased anything new in a while.

But. For my kiddo, I can't stop with the Threadless sales. I wait for the deals, and then I buy, but I usually never buy just one or two. Now that I'm pregnant, I'm more strict with my budget, but that's okay though because I bought $160 worth of $9 and $10 items last summer, so this next baby is also set.

Oh darn...I forgot about the books. Well, yeah, then I have a few hundred first edition children's books that I have a hard time not buying. I've cut way back since E was born, but I still wish I could spend a few hundred at the bookstore like I used to.

I envy people who LIKE shopping though - it seems like it would be fun!  I have one purse, 4 pairs of shoes, and about 10 items of maternity clothes that get rotated around.  I dread the Babystuffstorm 2011 that will start happening at our house...

Yeah, I'm really trying to follow the one piece in, two pieces out rule. So far so good. I'm in the midst of planning a great purge of things that have no practical value or personal meaning. I'm also not assigning too much special meaning to my kids' things because I don't want her to feel pressured into keeping something just because a relative gave it to her.

I just got rid of most of my cheap dating shoes and spent a good chunk of change last year on some quality Italian heels. They're like heaven to walk in. Come to think of it, my husband has more shoes than I do. ;)

  • Does Internet "window" shopping count? We are saving every penny right now for when we get PG so I'm not actually buying anything. I'm obsessed with looking at all things baby online. It's bad! I have a feeling it's going to be ugly when we get a BFP. I'll probably have everything purchased by the second tri! LOL!

This is me too. I hate shopping and clutter. I have 3 pairs of good shoes and one purse that I got on clearance. I think I get overwhelmed with options, and do better with smaller selections. My MIL has started buying baby #2 clothes is sizes up to 4t. I told her she had to store it at her house, or else it was getting donated. I have no where to store clothed for 4+ years.

This is exactly what happens to me.  Everything looks so damn adorable on the girls that they are much easier and funner to shop for.

  • I am a paper whore!  I love to shop and buy scrapbook paper, not even for a specific project...just because it's cute or pretty.  Stickers and Cricut cartridges off ebay is a problem too.  And since I just started sewing, I see fabric buying as a problem in my near future!

I really don't like shopping for clothing for myself...I get all depressed about how things look or fit or frustrated by the lack of selection or sizes in things I actually like.  I have 1 pair of jeans that fits comfortably right now (I blame GS cookies & depression right now).  And I live in the target nursing tanks still.

THIS!  And shoes for Livy.  At one point she had more shoes than I did, and probably more than DH and I combined.  But I got most of them super cheap and a lot were gifts.  Now that she's close to walking I'm holding back so that I can spend more on good quality hard-soled shoes.  I just bought her a pair of K-Swiss that match mine!  I'm such a dork!  LoL

I also really hate clutter, and things just lying around, but DH is not the same.  He always says "why should I put it away, I'll probably need it tomorrow."  Ahhhhhhhh!!!!  I have recently been into buying baskets and organizers so that I can easily say "this goes here, please put it there."  It doesn't really work, but at least when I'm cleaning up after him I have a designated spot already.

  • Fabric/sewing supplies. I have to keep myself in check, or I would come home with yards and yards of fabric to have on hand for when inspiration strikes.

  • Jeans- usually. I only have 2 pair that fit right now, and they aren't the type I normally buy.  Once I get the rest of the weight off (9lbs WOOT!) I will go buy at least 2 more nice pairs.

I just bought 5 long and lean tanks from Target, and I already have like 10 so I'd say that is an addiction.

For T it's also Jeans.  Or just pants in general.

    Confession:  My mom's a shopping addict/hoarder.

So is my mom. Seriously. I haven't been inside her house in maybe 7 years? She was robbed, and when they found the stuff (it was hidden under her porch so the thief could come back and pick it up later) she had things taken that she didn't even remember owning, or notice was missing. But she was mad about her "good stuff" getting ruined out in the rain.

    Sigh.

  • For me it's Converse All Stars, books (though I haven't bought many recently) and Threadless and other fun t-shirts.  For DD it's clothes and diapers.  Oh, and now I'm starting to get into wool and skirties.  My checkbook is doomed!

  • I?ve been pretty good lately about not buying too many clothes for N.  My usual favorite stores have all gone to pot: Gymboree, gap( for me), Loft.

So that leaves me with shopping for the house.  I desperately want new dishes and glassware.  We need new lighting. N needs a big boy room (97% purchased, jsut need to paint and order a rug).  The living room rug was trashed (and replaced!). The couch has a dog provided hole in it. The hall closet could use an Elfa system, as could my closet. I want a new rug for in front of the washer/dryer and drool over heating systems?that?s how bad it is.

  • We're trying to minimize right now but I do buy a lot of stuff for the yard, like the giant shipment of vegi seeds that came in the mail last week. I've been buying a lot of craft supplies for Syd lately too.
  • .....does eating out count...like 5-7 per week? Embarrassed
  • For me, books and bags--purses, work bags, diaper bags, I love them all, but I try to restrain myself. For DS (and now for baby!) Clothes for sure. I'll buy baby/kid clothes over clothes for me any day.

Oh my gosh how could I forget about makeup?!  I bought an amazing set right before DH and I moved up here from California and I was convinced it would curb my makeup addiction, but no dice.  I still gravitate straight to the MAC counter, even if I don't need anything.  Which I don't.  =P

  • For me it's clothes in general for me, DH or DS! Our cupboards are full - I just love shopping. However I am a good shopper & know what's on sale and will never pay full price for most things.

I am also obsessed with handbags. I have 8 alone that cost more than $500 each - I am trying to justify them now though when we are hoping to buy a new home soon.

And I know that if I had a little girl...I'd be broke - there are some gorgeous things out there for girls!

  • A GOOD DEAL. At the risk of sounding cocky, I am a pretty badass shopper and always buy stuff on sale. I very rarely pay full price for anything, and I like it that way! I really love to buy clothes for DH and Collin -- it's so much easier than trying on clothes, debating, etc., for myself. I bought three whole things for myself this weekend for our vacation and it was like pulling teeth. I do, however, have a weakness for designer bags and little blue boxes from Tiffany. Hee.

What I buy the most of for Collin is clothes in general, but there is an emphasis on plaid and argyle. Jen says he looks like a country clubber and Justine says he looks like a golfer. I guess he has an image. Wink

  • Add me to the list of ladies who don't like shopping and clutter. However, shopping for baby is completely different! :-) He won't even be here for 3 more months and I've shopped for him a half-dozen times already!

I tend to purge my closet and belongings once/yr or so.  I really wish DH would do this.  IMO, he has ridiculous reasons for keeping items that seem like garbage to me.  It's the biggest conflict between us.

I have a LOT of nail polish and I'm always looking for one more.  Luckily, it doesn't take up much space, but I have a small 3-drawer unit that is already full of nail polish, remover, tools, etc.  My nails are always done and I do them myself.

I also tend to have a large number of sheets and towels.  I didn't realize this was unusual b/c I grew up in a house with an overly stuffed linen closet.  But some of my close friends have only maybe 2 sets of sheets and towels.  We have a whole lot more than that.  On the upside, I only have to wash sheets or towels once/mo or so.

This is my DH's shopping obsession.  He is our main grocery shopper and grew up with that being his dad's role.  I don't mind since I don't like to do it, unless I get it in me to go one day.  But he does like to stockpile!  And now, with the predictions of inflation -particularly on food- he's wanting to do this even more so.

I can't stand to let linens sit in the hamper (esp. towels) so they get washed weekly.  I also can?t stand to put anything but fresh from the dryer sheets on the bed so 2 sets of each is all I?m allowed to have on hand. If I want sheets other than the set already on the bed, I will put the spare set in the dryer to freshen them up.
