We moved from Austin last January and I had to leave my former employment at a large state university in Austin that shall remain nameless. My original resignation went fine, but turned to he@#$ quickly thereafter. I originally told them I'd leave at the end of the semester, thinking that'd be the easiest for all involved. Then, when we didn't sell our house as quickly as we'd hoped and we knew we'd be in Austin for awhile, I asked to stay on through early January, knowing they needed the help (they were already short 1 girl on maternity leave) and they refused. Things turned ugly when they refused to change my end date and they basically kicked me out. Up until that point, though, I had a good relationship with my boss. We were around the same age and I thought we got along pretty well.
I'm applying for a new job and I e-mailed my former boss and asked if she'd serve as a reference for my time in Austin at said university and she refused. I had no idea she was still that bitter! Now I'm screwed because I've already turned in her name as a reference since I never dreamed she'd refuse and she was my direct supervisor. Screwed. I'm so screwed. It's my mistake that I did that before getting total confirmation (nevermind she took a few days to get back to me). So now I'm mad at myself and mad at her!

Re: Vent: Former employer frustrations
I'm sorry you have to deal with that on top of having to deal with the stress of job hunting in general.
PS - do you still use your yahoo email or should I facebook message you? I have some questions for you?
Oh, she didn't just flat out refuse. Her direct quote is : I don?t feel that I?m the best person to serve as a reference for the *position I applied for*
She didn't just say she couldn't/wouldn't do it. She basically just said "I don't have anything good to say about you, so you don't want them calling me." Grrrrr
You can do either. I still use the yahoo email and I facebook more than I should. :-)
Oh, then that's just mean. I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt but damn.. she's vindictive.
