my ob told me not to eat deli turkey, but I really want it and I think it would be ok to just eat one. Did you know about this??? did you eat sandwich while preg?
Yes. A ton of it. If you don't want to heat it up, I would ask if you could have Jersey Mike's. They cut their meat fresh so I think the risk for listeria is lower. I think it still has phosphates, though.
But, for full disclosure, I was very laid back about the things I ate during my pregnancy. I also ate soft serv like it was going out of style, feta, hot dogs, and I had an occasional glass of wine or beer. To me, it was all about if I could make the little voice in my head that told me everything was going to go to sh!t shut up, and I found that, surprisingly, I could.
eta: oh, I forgot about the coffee. and the sushi. I had those, too.
Yes, I ate deli meat while pregnant, and I didn't warm it up. I also ate hot dogs like Mrs.Rosie, and I had coffee, and I ate sushi. And I had a glass of wine now and then.

I have, but only on toasted sandwiches. Not really on purpose, I just love me some grilled ham & cheese.
My friend recently went to "meet the doctors" type of thing at her OB's office (a month or two ago). They were serving deli sandwich trays from Jason's Deli. This was a function for PG women and their spouses.
Yes. I had Jimmy Johns at least once a week. Mmmm....
I still don't understand what's wrong with soft serve ice cream. I don't think I would have survived my first Texas summer while pregnant without Dairy Queen.

Yes, once I wasn't feeling sick anymore I was in love with some ham and cheese sandwiches! We always got the Boar's Head brand at the deli in HEB. It is free of nitrates. I never heated that up or anything before I ate it.
I don't eat deli meat very often anyway because of the nasty nitrates, but I had nitrate-free Boar's Head stuff nuked for 30 sec. from time to time. That's supposed to kill off any danger. You could always get some regular turkey to eat if you're worried.
Thank you everyone! I'm glad to know those of you who did eat deli meat raw had beautiful babies! (I can see from your pictures!!) I'm sure I have 1 or 2 here and there my baby will be fine too!!
late to the party, but I also ate deli meat--never heated unless we went to Quizno's. I also had a Dr. Pepper every day--no coffee because unfortunately for me, the smell made me nauseated.
ETA: I didn't know it was "bad" for me until after my pregnancy.

This. During the first try i only had sandwiches warmed/toasted. But I haven't bothered since and I've had a corn dog or two when the craving struck!
