Trying to Get Pregnant

Anyone have problems with ovulation kits not showing you're ovulating?

I'm so frustrated...my hubby and I have been TTC for 6 months and nothing. I may have been preggos and had a 5-week miscarry, but we won't ever know (had all symptoms but never tested for it). Anyway, now I've been using the ClearBlue ovulation kit and I thought it would be so easy. Since my period had always been very consistent (except for the one time I was 3 days late), I was using a fertility tracker. The tracker told me the past 5 days (2/23 til 2/28) were my most fertile days. However, every day that I used the ovulation kit, I never had an LH surge. Has this happened to anyone? Not getting LH surge? So weird and I hope it's just a fluke because now I'm concerned this is a problem. What if I don't ovulate?

I just started tracking my temp, but since it's only been a few days of that, I can't use that as a baseline either. I just hear about all these people using the ovulation kits and it seems to work, but then I do and I get nothing!!!

  • Just keep temping and checking for a thermal shift. That will be the point when you ovulate. I used the digi ovulation kit this cycle too and missed my LH surge.

the problem is once you've seen the shift, you've already Oed and it's basically too late.  It's a good way to track your cycles and get a feel for any patterns, but temping alone isn't a good way to TTC.

  • When I first started out I was having a hard time catching my surge. It's very fast and comes at about 2pm (when I'm at work) so I test at work sometimes. FMU isn't always the best, and test 2-3 times a day. Make sure you hold your urine for a couple hours. It's not always easy to catch! Takes practice. Good luck!

Yeah you should get a positive OPK the day before you ovulate. If you already have a temp shift, you've ovulated already and it's too late. The temp shift tells you that you've ovulated and an OPK will tell youthag your about to.

  • my husband and i have only been trying for a month, last month i did use the clear blue ovulation kit and never once got a positive... i figured it was enough to use those tests, and it was only our first month so i wasnt trying to go crazy with charting and everything... right now i am 5 days late and have taken 3 pregnancy tests and they have all been negative, so now im wondering if I ever even ovulated this month :(

Right. I'm just saying that if she is concerned at all about whether or not she is ovulating, the temp shift will show that it is happening.

  • Oh yeah.  I used the Answer brand and never received a positive OPK.  I saw a faint line one day out of the 10 days I was testing although I did get a positive thermal shift.  I am using FF to keep track and was given a definitive O day.  GL!

  • I have only ever gotten a positive OPK once.  Today my dr. recommended getting a fertility monitor to supplement everything else that I have been doing.  She also did blood work to make sure that there were no problems like thyroid that may be impacting my ovulation.

  • Okay, I'm glad I'm not alone with these tests not working. I didn't realize this was so hard to track all this stuff - doing it at work!! I guess I will have to try that because I heard that it's best to test in the afternoon but I always wondered how I could pull that off at work. I guess I'll have to try next month. I'm afraid I already missed my window but who knows, maybe we got lucky despite the negative ovulation test. I want to be positive!! fingers are crossed. Someone said to try FF, but I don't know what that means. What is FF?

Charting and temping doesn't mean your crazy. I wish I would have started both in march of last year when we started ttc Instead Of waiting 6 months. It takes practice to understand OPKs. I didn't get a positive until 2-3 months after I started them. But I was charting so I knew for sure that I was ovulating. Even though I didnt get a positive OPK. And I'm not crazy.
