Pregnant after a Loss

Tell me sex doesn't = spotting

DH and I had sex last night for the first time since we got out BFP.  Last pregnancy we had sex and the spotting started for our miscarriage.  I'm so paranoid right now.  I told him he had to be especially gentle and he was but I'm still scared.

I'm basically waiting for spotting to happen right now and I'm driving myself nuts. What are your views and experiences? Am I just being paranoid?

Side note, I go in for my second betas today :)

  • Sex can cause spotting, but it won't cause a m/c. Good luck on your betas!

This exactly.  That whole area is super super sensitive right now, you may have just irritated the area.  It will never hurt to put your feet up for the day and take it easy though.

This. I have doctor's orders to not have sex due to my spotting early on. I haven't had sex for 9wks or so.

  • Sex itself won't hurt the baby, but it can cause spotting. Last pregnancy, I started spotting after sex at 18 weeks. When I asked my ob and a high ob about sex during pregnancy, they both said normally it's completely fine right up until delivery, but it is possible it can cause infection. It freaked me out enough that we're abstaining this time - just from intercourse. But I know that's a pretty extreme view. Like the doctors said, sex is normally completely fine. GL on your second beta!

  • Sex often equals spotting. It will not, however, cause a miscarriage. Your vagina and cervix are sensitive right now, and easily irritated.
  • spotting is normal after sex to an extent.  Just as long as it's not bright red blood and good amounts of it.

With my last miscarriage, THE REASON I found out I was miscarrying was because I started bleeding right after sex.  I thought it was normal, went to the doctor and he wasn't even going to do an ultrasound and figured I was just spotting but decided to do an ultrasound for my sanity.  That's when we saw no heartbeat at 8.5 weeks after seeing one at 6 weeks.  So I had miscarried 1.5 weeks before I even knew it and bleeding after sex was the first physical indication that I had.

Good luck, but if your worried, definately go get it checked out.  I would call either way.
