Hey Everyone,
I have never really been a poster just mainly a reader. Googleing anything that might have something to do with the problems I have but I never hear of anyone with super long periods. Just people not having periods. So heres my story, PLEASE read and leave any comment that may be helpful! I really would appreciate it!!!!
I began my cycle at 13 and were kind of sparatic because I was young I guess and Then I turned 14 and my periods began to be very heavy with horrible clotting and lasted about 3 weeks! I would have 7-10 days of nothing and then begin again! My mom finally took me to the Dr. when I turned 15 because I couldn't stand it anymore and it was very difficult with school and sports to deal. The Dr did no tests to check for anything they just put me on some bc which I was on until a month before I turned 24! I am getting ready to turn 25 March 5th and have been off bc for 1yr and 1month. My Husband and I have never used protection other than bc and when I went off the birth control in feb of last year I we had unprotected sex very often until june when we had to begin using condoms bc we found out that my insurance co had not added my maternity policy to my plan and when I added it in June we had to start a waiting period which lasted till DEC 2010. but in the mean time I didnt have a period from the time I stopped bc in feb until Aug. my gyno at the time didnt seem to be concered about it and said just to deal. which seemed crazy for someone who was wanting to concive as soon as my insurance would allow it! So in dec upon recomendation from friends I made an appt at another OB-GYN and went on Dec 1st. She was horrified that my Dr. had not tested me for PCOS and thyroid issues when I was 15 and decided to do the test immediately both test came back that I had Hypothyroidism and PCOS. So an ultrasound was done and found that I had textbook PCOS ovaries and maybe a septum! I was referred to an awesome RE and saw him for the first time on Jan 25th and wanted to see me back for a 3d ultrasound the next week. My ultrasound came out great and he thought the septum wasnt big enough to cause a problem so no surgery there! (THANK GOD!!!) and I was to start provera to bring on a real period bc my lining needed to be shed. I took one provera and the next morning it was like the dam was released! the RE told me to just let it go and see if it was going to be a real period so I did and it def. was! on CD 3 I began my femara and continued it until cd 7 and I am now on CD 10 and still bleeding! I am supposed to go next wed March 2nd for another ultrasound to look at follies. but am really just wondering if this is normal????? is is normal to have a 10 day period after provera and femara? PLEASE leave any comment you think may help me! It's been really hard the last month I am a cosmetologist and it seems eveyone that comes in the beauty shop is pregnant along with all my cousins, and I have wanted this for so long and its finally just ok for us to start now. Thanks for letting me rant and rave ya'll I really appreciate it!!!!! Michelle

Oh, Michelle, you sound just like me! I have exteremely long periods and have for as long as I can remember. Plus, my first obgyn did the same thing! Put me on bc and did nothing else. My next gyno put me on prometrium after I was married to try and prompt a normal cycle and I seriously thought I was hemorrhaging. So I would think this is "normal" for someone with odd af's. I really hope for the best for you and if you ever need anything, feel free to message me. I'm new to this too...but it is great to have all these supportive women who have been through what we're going through.
Also...another coincidence...my birthday is March 5th too!

mmecarter, Thank you so much for replying! I hate that you have these problems, but I am soo super glad that You commented bc I was really beginning to think I was the only one! I was just afraid that the provera had messed something up! I am now on day 12 and finally finished yesterday! I go back wednesday mar 2nd for another ultrasound to look at follicles! and was really glad that I stopped before that! I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate your input! Also I must have typed my birthdate wrong! being that it was 1 in the morning i can see why I didnt catch the mistake. But I wasnt far off It is March 4th this friday! anyway... Thank You so much, it was great to read your reply!!!
I finished AF on CD 11 and went to the Re on March 2nd for CD 14 and had one follicle on the right ovary that was 14mm and RE seemed to think I may Ovulate on CD 17sat, 18sun, or 19mon which is today! I have had no pos OPK and no thermal SHift Yet but we will see! I will try to keep this post updated for people searching posts later on for info. bc in my search I have found the question was answered but never found out the outcome of those posts. so for further reference I will try to keep this updated
