Pregnant after a Loss

Hair Color

So I was speaking with my hairdresser then other day about how dry my hair has become now that I'm pregnant... she recommended covering old highlights with a semi-permanent haircolor stating that it is safe during pregnancy and will soften up  highlighted hair and also a trim to cut off dry ends... I want to trust her expertise but I'm also worried about doing anything to possibly hurt my baby... any other ladies on here use hair color with no problems? I'm trying to not be the crazy, worried about everything expectant mom... but as we know, once we have a loss - everything causes worry. I'm trying to not be vain either and worrying about what my hair looks like but seriously it is so dry it feels like I'm washing hay in the shower! Any thoughts you ladies have would be super helpful!

Re: Hair Color

  • My best friend is a hairdresser and she told me there was no problem with dying hair while pregnant.  However, to be on the safe side, I waited until after 12 weeks before doing anything.  My doctor was fine with it too.

My hairdresser was pregnant and worked the entire time and didn't have any problems but just to be safe, I'll wait until 12 weeks
  • Every article I've read said that there is no known risk and that very little is absorbed through the skin but to be safe wait until 12w.

  • i'm waiting to highlight my hair until after the 1st tri.

my hair gets very dry especially in the winter so i've found VO5 hot oil works amazing.  however, never did any research to make sure it's safe during pregnancy.  i think i'll look that up now.

  • My dr said its 100% fine to color your hair at any stage of pg, given that haircolor used today is much safer than those of the past!!

  • I color my hair...otherwise I would have a head full of gray and I just can't handle that at 28 years old.  Its perfectly fine.  Just make sure the salon is well ventilated
