? for the daycare mamas

Would you consider a DCP that was on your street?

We're thinking about switching and I'm wondering if I would regret having someone so close?

This!!!  I wouldn't pick is specifically for this reason, but if I were happy with the person, I would definately look at that as a bonus!

  • I would have no problem with them being on my street. Do you work from home? If not, I wouldn't see it making much of a difference. My daycare is very close to my H's office, and we love the proximity. He leaves work 5 minutes before the daycare closes.
  • When I looked at DC's, I wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to have to go out of my way to pick him up.  It would be even more awesome to have them right down the street from my house!  We are very lucky that DC is only about 3 miles down the road from my workplace.

  • I would, our DCP isnt on the same street but she's only about a mile away and I think it's great.  when we got that really bad snow storm I was able to walk to pick her up

  • I'm not sure why I'm feeling apprehensive about the closeness.  It would be awesome to just walk down and drop him off and pick him up...it would save me about 45 minutes a day, give or take.

I work from home occasionally and sometimes take the day or afternoon off to do things at home and send DS to daycare.  I'm more concerned with running into someone all the time or just having them stop over for something?

I'm meeting with her tomorrow night, so I guess we'll see!

  • Hm, I can't imagine what possible drawbacks you might be envisioning.  Our new one isn't down the street but it's close enough so that if I were sick and needed to bring him, I could.  Our old one was near work and it made no sense to take him there if I wasn't going to work.

  • I work from home so if the DCP was like next door, I would LOVE it. They'd probably hate me because I'd probably come by on every break I get. LOL

    Total plus.

  • Liam goes to a Kids R Kids but it's LITERALLY a five minute round trip from our house.  It's awesome!  I don't have to go out of my way to pick him up or drop him off every day and if I forget anything it's really easy to run back and get it.

  • Not *quite* the same, but I was still in high school/living at home when one of my nephews was little.  He went to a home daycare that was across the street and about 3 houses down from our house.  It was really convenient for my sister since she was over at our house a lot.  Also convenient when she worked late and me or my parents could just walk over there and pick him up.

I would say do it.  When my kids were in daycare I feel like it would have been beneficial.
