What do you do when baby starts coughing while BFing?

Every once in a while my LO will begin to cough or choke almost when he is eating. I usually just give him some space and let him cough it out and he is fine, but I didn't know if I should do more, like sit him up, pat his back, make him hold up his arms, or continue to just let him cough it out on his own. Suggestions? Thoughts?

    I sit her up, because that's what I want when I'm coughing or choking on liquids.  I have never understood why someone would pat/smack your back when you're coughing.  I'm always thinking - 'get the heck off of me.'

    I sit my DD up and pat her back a few times.  But she likes having her back patted.

    LLL said my LO is coughing b/c my milk is coming out so quickly, but it is nothing to worry about. If it causes concern they say to express a little before she starts eating, otherwise let her cough it out. I burp mine over my shoulder and then put her back on. GL

    I just sit my daughter up and let her cough it out. I just talk to her to calm her down, but really I think I'm the one who needs calming down. Freaks me out, but I know it's because she just messes around sometimes and she gets squirted in the back of the throat. Stinker.
