Wrap/FSOT Gurus

I finally have some extra cash ($100, give or take a bit) to go wrap shopping, but am totally overwhelmed by the options.  This will be my first (only?) wrap, and I'm really not sure what to look for, or what most wraps are like, beyond seller's description.

So far, I (think I) know that I want:  Size 6 , warm weather wrap in a "non-girly" colorway - I'm especially drawn to reds, blues, and neutral solids or geometric patterns.

There are a few different wraps on FSOT right now that might work, but I really don't know - Purpur Indio, Nati Japan, NWI?  I imagine that the NWI would be too thick for warm weather, but what about the other two?  Or any other suggestions?

Please enlighten me (or if you're up to it, help me shopSmile)...

  • As far as I know, Vatanais are highly recommended for warm weather.  I haven't tried one personally though.  I did just get an Ellaroo, that seems to be nice & thin and easy to work with.  Maybe look into those as well?  HTH!

  • There is a Vat Koira up right now that's within my price range, and I love the color, but it's a bit longer than I (think I) want.  Or maybe not - it's a full 5m.  Can someone tell me if the tails will get in my way?  I'm not up for chopping/hemming right now.

You might want to jump on it quick, I doubt it will last long.  It's a size 7 but you can always wrap the extra around your waist.

  • The Vat Koria was my first woven... I still LOVE IT!

Vats don't seem to last long on FSOT, I looked for 2 weeks a month ago and couldn't find a single one.

You also could have it hemmed if you really didn't like the length?

  • I guess as far as how much the tails will interfere it would depend on your size--I normally wear a 16(though I've lost some weight during pregnancy), so we got a 5m Orkney...the tails are a bit longer than I expected, but that could also be in part because I'm short(5'1").  If it turns out to be too big an issue later on after LO gets here, I'll probably either swap it for a shorter model(more likely) or chop it to a more manageable length and make something with the leftovers.

I will note that compared to the Giras I encountered yesterday at wrapping class, it's much softer new/once-washed than the new/crunchy ones, and much thinner than the new -or- more-worn variants--though maybe not quite as thin or soft as my Aphrodite.

  • Well, I'm jumping in.  I PMed the Koira mama, and we'll see what happens.  Thanks all for your advice!
  • I hope it works for you - and if not, you can always re-sell it - FSOT is jumping now!!

  • Yep - I'll bet I wasn't the only mama waiting for Uncle Sam to send her BW money.

  • Koira's gone, so I'm back to looking...

NWI is probably too warm for a summer/Central America visit wrap, right?
