8 Days PP can't see stiches down there?

Hey all! I had my baby! (I should post her birth story...) and update my siggy and ticker (cant figure our the new siggy editor...ugh) ANYWAYS......

I got brave enough to take out a mirror and have a look down there today (only a 1st degree cut from an episiotomy and feeling 98% pain free since about day 4 yesss!) and I did not actually see any stitches on the outside of my episotomy cut. I expected to be able to see them on the outside.

I can see the cut, and it looks like the skin is being held together my SOMETHING, but I cannot see the sutures. Are they inside? could they have already dissoved? I Hope they are still there and the cut heals up and closes...

Thoughts? Advice? Experiences?

I wish I would have been brave enough to look sooner so I would have known if they were visible from the outside or not from day one....

  • My SIL said it looked line he used fishing line to stitch me up, maybe your stitching is clear as well?

  • They are thin and clear and take four weeks to dissolve. You shouldnt be able to see them until they start to dissolve, and only because they come out in pieces/sections.

I did see him take out the thread and it did look clear. You are probably right.

Shouldn't I be able to see knots though or a little excess string poking out? I guess I shouldt worry if I'm not in pain and apparently healing well. Right?

  • Totally TMI, but you make me want to shave my jungle just so I can take a look! I didn't have enough tearing to get stitches, I'm just curious what it looks like down there. If you could brave it, so can I.

Bahahah! Luckilly I shaved the day before my induction so I am only mildly fuzzy down there right now so it was easy to see.

It definitely looks "different" down there. As soon as I wasn't so tender I started my kegels again, hoping to get things snapped back into shape.

What, were things billowing in the wind? What am I in for here??

Kegels... shucks, I'm hoping that DH will hate how loose I am down there so much we avoid sex for another few months!! It feels like just another chore I'll have to get to doing again soon.

    Indifferent

Little itty bitty part of me is somewhat glad I couldn't push DS out...lol. I don't know that I want to know what it would look like after pushing a LO fully out.

LOL, I look different down there too, it's a little billowy, sigh... PLUS, my Doc gave me an extra flap!!!  WTF?!  Right in the middle, a pancake flap the size of the tip of my pinky.  I call it my battle scar now, but it pissed me off at first (when the hormones were raging)!

And I'm definitely ready for sex again... I'm one of the unlucky ones whose DH couldn't do it in the last couple weeks... I'm so ready but it's pretty gnarly down there (not to mention it's only been 2 weeks.)
