Thursday February 17th, 5 days after my due date, I was schedule to arrive at the hospital at 5:30am for an induction. We arrived right on time and were checked in and taken to our room right away. About 7am the nurse did her initial check and I was still only 1cm (been there for about 3 weeks now) then my Doctor came in and broke my water and the pitocin was started. I was contracting before the pitocin was started but they were very mild and not helping me progress. Once the pitocin was started my contractions started to get stronger but still nothing to intense. At 10:30am the nurse checked my and I was 4 cm. I was pretty excited that I was finally making progress! The nurse said at this point she I would probably progress at 1cm per hour and to expect Baby to arrive late afternoon/early evening. When she checked my cervix she moved Baby's head a little and woosh!! Though my water was broke at 7am I had only been leaking very slowly because Baby's head was so low, but when she Baby's head moved it let all the water out. My contractions were getting stronger and since the labor and delivery floor was full that day my nurse suggested if I wanted to get an epi to let her know soon because it could take an hour or so to get the anesthesiologist to my room. So I opted to get the epi then and it only took them about 10 minutes to get to my room to give it to me. The epi only took to my right side originally so I had to lay on my left side to try and let gravity do it's thing. Within 20 minutes I started to get some relief on my left side. I rolled to my right to get comfortable and had a nap for about 45 minutes then I noticed the epi wearing off on my left side again so back I rolled to my left. 10 minutes later at about 11:30 the nurse checked me and said "It's time". I looked at my Husby and then back at the nurse in disbelief! I thought she was joking considering only an hour ago I was at 4cm! So she had me push for a few minutes to see where I was at and since Baby was already so low after 10 minutes she made me stop and she went to get the Doctor. He arrived about 12:15 and we got a great surprise when Miss. Ellie Rose arrived at 1:03pm!!
We had been convinced it was a boy, and even all the Doctors and Nurses that day though she was going to be a 7.5lb baby boy, but she surprise us all when they said "It's a Girl!" and she weight in at 8lbs 5oz.
She is an amazing little girl and always so content. She is already sleeping so well only waking for about 25 minutes at 2am and 6am (we go to bed at 11 and get up about 8:30 or 9) and I just love her to pieces!! If I could ever get The Bump to work I will change my siggy to reflect her age and gender.
