Pink Eye

DS definitely has pink eye.  He woke up from nap today with a goopy eye, and it just keeps getting more and more irritated.  I called at 3pm, to see if we could get in to see the doc, but they closed at noon.

I remember having pink eye as a kid, but DS has never had it.  Anyone's LO have it recently?  How can I soothe the irritation until I get in to see the dr?

Re: Pink Eye

  • Wipe from inside to out with a warm washcloth. Pedi will prescribe eye drops. It goes away pretty quickly after you get the drops. Good luck, hope your LO feels better soon!

  •  Like PP said, a warm washcloth works great. Is there a walk-in clinic you could go to? The sooner he gets the eye drops, the better because a)it'll make his eye feel better, and b)24 hrs after drops he stops being contagious. Our doc actually prescribed an ointment instead of the drops because he said it was easier to administer. If that's available, I'd recommend it. Pink eye (as I'm sure you know) is super contagious. DH and I both got it from DD even though we washed hers and our hands like crazy and tried to not touch our faces at all. Once he's on the eyedrops, make sure to wash all of his sheets, stuffed animals, toys, etc. or else he'll reinfect himself. Big hugs to your DS! :o(

  • Forgot about the SUPER contagious part!! I've had it to from DD. That ointment sounds awesome, if/when DD gets it again I will have to remember to ask her Pedi for that... Thank You :)

  • We just got over pink eye here in our house.  DD got it, then me, then DH -- even though we were SO cautious about washing hands, towels, pillows, sheets, etc.

I thought the drops were better than ointment.  With drops, you just sort of aim for the eye and it'll drop in and get where it needs to go.  It seems like with ointment you'd have to be careful to get it perfectly in the eye.
