Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Question about water

When we had DD's 6 month appointment, they ran through questions and I answered yes or no, like "Is she eating solids?", "Is she rolling over?", "Is she drinking water?" I answered no to the water one, but didn't even think to ask if she should be drinking water? Why or why not?

Re: Question about water

  • We just started giving DS a sippy cup w/ some water.  I figure that it will take him a while to master it, and a sip of water here or there won't harm him.  It also gives me a couple extra minutes of quite to fix dinner if I give it to him in his highchair!  ;)

  • Our pedi said that DD should start drinking water for the flouride at her 6 month appt. I'm not sure if it's based on the age, or the fact that she has teeth though. I can't remember if she told us a specific amount of water, but I can't imagine it would be more than a few ounces a day at this point. We've tried the sippy cup a few times, but not conistently enough that she's really mastered it.

  • I started putting water into a sippy cup at around 6 months of age so LO could get used to drinking from one.   That is the only time he drinks water.

  • We give DD a sippy cup with a little bit of water while she is eating solids.  She doesn't ever get much, but she does love it!

  • We too offer water in a sippy when she's eating solids.  She doesn't get a ton, but what she does get she enjoys!
  • DD gets a sippy cup of water everyday. Over the course of a day, she probably drinks about 2 oz.

  • we were told to give a little bit of water so i put some in a sippy cup. she brings the cup to her mouth but doesn't quite know what to do next.

instead, we put some water in her regular bottle to get her accustomed to the taste and that she's supposed to drink it.  once she 'gets' it, we'll put it back into the sippy cup.  i didn't want the 2 'new' things confusing her.
