Ok, so I've only had internet access from my phone, so I'm just now catching up.
We're back home. Surgery for tubes was Friday morning, and it went well. We got there at 5:45 and were on our way home at 9 am. We are friends with an anesthesiologist at home who called the hospital ahead of time and made sure that her good friend at that hospital was his anesth. She was great. We were in surgery holding, and J was starting to get nervous. She was the one who came out, introduced herself, got J talking about Buzz Lightyear, and she actually picked him and his teddy up and carried him back, so there were NO tears at all when they took him back (they had prepared us for him screaming for us). So grateful. She said he didn't even cry when they got back there. She let him pick a flavor of lipbalm (they use it in the mask so it smells good) and he put the mask on himself and he was out after 2 breaths. Just knowing that makes me so much happier about the whole thing.
Coming out of surgery was not so pleasant. But as soon as he was awake they picked him right up and brought him to us. The actually brought the bed in a few minutes later, lol. He did cry for a long while. He was very out of it and screamed that his head was hurting. It was not fun. I felt awful that he felt so awful. They finally got some Tylenol in him, and after about an hour, he was calm enough to go. He refused his popcicle, but had some juice that stayed down in the hospital. However, we got halfway home and up it all came. I was prepared, we just pulled over into a hotel parking lot and i stripped and redressed him while DH cleaned up the carseat and car. After that, J perked right up, and still wanted to stop for pancakes.
He ate a lot (I was afraid it was going to come back up, too but it didn't). He came home and immediately fell down (they had warned us that he would be wobbly, but he was VERY wobbly at first). After that drama, he played a little while, ate more, and then napped with his dad most of the afternoon.
We drove home yesterday, in installments, lol. We stopped and shopped at the outlets a little, then stopped for dinner. J just couldn't seem to settle into the ride at all. He was definitely more whiney yesterday than normal, although didn't seem to have pain or balance issues.
He's now eating like crazy (yay for the end of the hunger strike), and is pretty happy with life in general. Thanks, everyone, for your thoughts and prayers. They were definitely working! I'm just so glad to be back home. The parents are EXHAUSTED, for sure. But we're relieved and happy, too!
