Cloth Diapering

Which diapers do you use at daycare?

I'm working on getting daycare on board with CDs. Obviously I was this to be as easy as possible but I'm really not a huge BG lover. My current stash has a bunch of Thirsties Duos and GroVia - both with hook and loop. Do you think those are easy enough? What else do you recommend? How many diapers do you have in your daycare stash? Thanks!

  • I think thirsties duo should be fine at day care.

  • We use BG with aplix and are usually pretty successful.  I would think the thirsties duos would work great because they agitate out so you don't have to go back in the dirty wetbag and pull out pockets.  Hmmmm, now I am rethinking ours :)

Oh, and we have ten but DD only goes M, W, R and sometimes not the full days.  It gets a little tricky the W-R but we just usually plan to do wash that night.

  • We use main BG aplix but I have a few other random pockets in there.  I would probably start with the Duos.  I try to make it as easy as possible for them and having to explain to to daycare that the Grovia covers can be reused just seems like a disaster.  To me and the rest of the CD community it's not a hard concept, but our daycare had never seen a modern cloth diaper and I was glad they were open to using them...didn't want to press my luck with anything too complicated.

  • My son is starting daycare at the end of March.  I have 3 Blueberry aplix, 3 BG aplix, 4 GroVia aplix, 2 BestBottom aplix, 2 SoftBums Omni aplix and 2 Thirsties Duo aplix.  I am not planning to even explain the AI2 aspect of the GV, BB or SB dipes at first.  Once we get in the groove and things are going well, I will see if just switching out inserts for pee dipes is something they are willing to do.

  • DS is in daycare M, W, F and we use the BG Elementals with a couple grovia and GM Ones thrown in too. We've had no problems and we're just now starting to take in diapers for the week rather than diapers for the day since our stash is now built up sufficiently to use fitteds when I'm home on T, Th and Elementals on weekends.

  • We just use any aplix pocket diaper.

I do have one Softbums Omni, but I stuff it like a pocket for daycare. Most of my stash is BG, but I also have Happy Heinys and Blueberries in there, as well as a few Kawaiis. No problems at all. They do tend to reach for the Blueberry last, but I think they think the minky would be too hot.

I've sent a Thirsties Duo before too, no problem.

  • We use all aplix pockets and AIOs.

I would recommend trying to keep it simple, depending on your provider, because we have tried other diapers and they just can't get the fit right, no matter how many times I explain it or show them. So LO ends up with wet clothes nearly every change and that gets to be a LOT of laundry!

This is exactly why I kind of want to stick with one brand/style for daycare. He's only there Tues-Thurs and I already have 5 Thirsties in my stash. I think if I get 6 more I should be ok doing laundry on Weds if I plan to send him in a differen style diaper in the morning. Thanks for weighing in!
  • I think the Duo's are fine since they can just put on and off just like a dispoable...the GroVia's require changing the soaker which I can see turning a daycare off. We send any of our pockets/AIO's to daycare and have a mix of snaps and aplix though BG's do make the majority of that stash (about 12).

  • LO will be going on Tuesday and Thursday mornings in the fall, and we've purchased BG 3.0 AIOs for the daycare providers to use.  I haven't talked to them about it yet, but it's a church preschool program, so I'm hoping they'll be more lenient than some of the larger daycare centers in the area.
