What are you looking at?

We were having a few friends over, so I decided to accompany DH to the store to pick up a few bottles of wine (maybe some non alcoholic for me-fingers crossed).  I had been cooped up for a while and since the dr lifted my restrictions thought this was a great idea.  So as we walk into the liquor/wine haven, everything came to a screeching halt.  Everyone stopped what they were doing and started staring at me and my 27 week size abdomen.  I look at DH and he says "yes they are looking at you".  No biggie, I just rubbed my belly and say " I sure am thirsty" and keep walking through.  So after about 3 minutes of finding what we came in for minus the non-alcoholic wine for me, we make it to the counter to pay.  Keep in mind I am carrying nothing, the cashier cards my husband, then he turns to me and asks for my ID.  At first I just knew he wasn't talking to me, because #1 I am not purchasing anything and #2 I am very pregnant.  As I pull out my ID, I ask him if he's serious because now everyone is staring at me like, the bottles of wine must be for me.

I do appreciate the carding, I may look a little younger than my age, but I do not look as though my husband has knocked up an underage girl and now is about to give her wine!  I was kind of offended -just because of principle.

Thought this was kinda funny and thought I'd share.

  • Lol nice story!

I understand the carding though.  My husband used to work at a liquor counter and they sent underage people who looked plenty old enough in a lot as tests for the police :)

And at the club I worked at we had to card the few pregnant ladies that came in every once in awhile to go dancing with their friends.  If you think you got dirty looks, just imagine what you would get for ordering a soda at a dance club lmao!  Those poor girls!

  • I bought a case of wine and a case of liquor yesterday to restock the cabinet for our St. Paddy's Day party. Hindsight being 20/20, I probably should have asked DH to go.

  • I bought DH some beer the other day at DH's work so everyone knows me, I got all sorts of crap about it, I just told them that when I choose to drink beer, it won't be Keystone!

And no matter if you are buying or not, if you are in the check out you get carded here too.

  • I know in Florida, liquor store have the right to card everyone that is with you. I wouldn't take offense, the cashier was just doing their job.
