2nd Trimester

Ready for honesty? No filter...

Alright...because my worries are getting the best of me, I'm just going to 'air it all out' right now to many folks that have no clue who I am. Let's face it, that's usually the best crowd anyway.  :)

Alrighty..12 weeks and 1 day today (ticker is off by a few days).   In my first pregnancy I gained a whopping 60 pounds; yeah, I know..not good.  I'm determined to keep it to 20-25 this time around.  Well, since I was pushin' 200 with the first one (and because of my not so wonderful genes) I got terrible stretch marks.  I lost the weight (I'm 5'4) and got down to 130.  Yay!  However,  I had some major battle scars to deal with along with a 'pooch' that has been here for 5 years.

Here's my deal...I had a miscarriage at week 8 back in October.  So far, everything has been good.  Dr. found a hearbeat at 8 weeks and I go in next week.  I just cannot tell if I'm showing yet due to my slight pooch and stretch marks that I've had for a while.  I started this pregnancy out at 133 and am now 138.  My diet has changed quite a bit due to ms and just straight up not feeling up for the foods I was eating pre-pregnancy.  I feel like I'm 'bigger' but I think that's because of the 5 pounds.  My jeans aren't fitting well as they were either...but again, is that the 5 pounds?  The thoughts keeps crossing my mind of a missed miscarriage.  :-/  I just don't see a pregnancy pooch.  I just see my 'old' pooch.

Does anyone else have/had this problem?  When could you really tell that you were showing?  From my pregnancy apps, I should be seeing a pooch?  Ugh! Hate the waiting.

Thanks you gals!

  • I just barely started showing at 23 weeks. And even now at 25 it's not much.

  • Oh! Well, that makes me feel better.  I guess everyone is different . It's just this past miscarriage that has been making me very jumpy!  ::)

  • I don't think that I'm "showing". Ive been pretending that my tummy is a bump. I've always had a chubby tummy and it's extra bloated and swollen now.

I know what you mean about being worried about missed miscarriage. I had a loss before as well. We havent had an ultra sound since about 7 weeks, when they found a heart beat. I'm really hoping for one this week when I go, because I'm really worried. I've still been sick, which is a nice reminder, but I still worry.

    So basically, you're not alone.

  • You are only 12 weeks I wouldn't worry at all. I will be 17 weeks tomorrow and up until when I popped in week 15 I just looked like I couldn't stay out of the cookie jar. lol. I think you are fine, but if you are worrier you can maybe rent or buy a fetal heartbeat monitor.

  • You're only 12 weeks and if you already had a little pouch, it'll take some time so try to be patient it'll pop! Congrats!
  • Y'all are so sweet! Thank you for your advice and insight!  It has made me feel a lot better!

    Thanks!

  • I am 19 weeks and everyone at work keeps saying when are you going to start showing. I went for my anatomy scan and dr found a healthy baby girl. He said it can take a while before you start showing. I am barely showing now and have only gained like a pound but dr says that is a good thing and ill be thankful in 4 months.
  • i'm pregnant with my second, and i'm just starting to show enough that strangers might notice. but honestly, depending on what i'm wearing, i still don't think many people that didn't know i was pregnant would guess it, and i'm 17 weeks tomorrow. try not to worry -- i know it's easier said than done
  • Everyone is different. Especially with a second pregnancy, and a large weight loss (Congrats to you! I know it was not easy).

I'm 5'3" and about 170 lbs. I didn't start showing till almost 20 weeks. And it was more my fluffy middle just started to become more round and hard rather than protruding.

Give yourself some time. In the next 6 weeks, your body is going to change SO much. :)

    Congrats and sticky baby dust!

  • I was always very thin so although other people couldn't tell I was pregnant until recently my husband and I noted the change beginning between the second and third month. I have had life long problems with POS and swelling during periods and I believe that it was mostly this hormone induced swelling that made it impossible for me to wear my normal clothes so quickly. So perhaps its hormone induced swelling? If you are drinking tons of water, not eating junk food and walking/ exercising thirty minutes a day then you are doing all you can. Try not to be too hard on yourself!
  • I'm 19 weeks and haven't popped yet either.  I've only gained between 3-4 pounds so far and that may be why. Plus I wasn't super tiny when I got pregnant but more regular size so I, like one of the other posters, probably just look like I've had a few too many cookies lol. You're not alone. I know it's hard not to stress out when you've already miscarried once but once they hear the heartbeat, your likelihood of miscarrying drops significantly. You likely just aren't showing yet because you're pretty fit and haven't gained much weight yet.

  • at 20lbs overweight when i found out i was pg i definitely had a tummy, so for a while the only change that I noticed was that the cub was getting less smushy. i was really having a hard time believing that i was pg and that everything was good because really there are no signs if you don't have m/s (which i didn't). thankfully everything is good, but LO had to start kicking before I really believed it.
  • i am just about 6 months and am just starting to look pregnant in my belly. My boobs now are  a whole other story i have gone up 2 bra sizes and i noticably walk different and stand wider. Dont focus on the bump check out all the lovely areas that expand! hehe Good luck!
  • I'm pg with twins and only started showing at 16-17 weeks.  That's when I went out and bought maternity clothes.  At 12 weeks I wasn't showing at all, at 13-14 weeks my jeans were just starting to get tight and uncomfortable, but I was still able to wear them (unbottoned at least).  Everyone shows differently, and since it's your second you'll show sooner.  Just focus on eating healthy foods and not junk food.
